General: Much of Iraq’s Forces Have Quit

WASHINGTON - About one in every 10 members of Iraq (news - web sites)'s security forces “actually worked against” U.S. troops during the recent militia violence in Iraq, and an additional 40 percent walked off the job because of intimidation, the commander of the 1st Armored Division said Wednesday. And the rest refuse to fight…LOL…I bet they are all terrorist…right…
The results were disastrous: During the violence, many Iraqi police and civil defense personnel abandoned their posts, or joined Shiite militants loyal to renegade cleric Moqtada al-Sadr. What’s more, some soldiers of the first U.S.-trained battalion of the New Iraqi Army (NIA) deserted their unit or refused to follow orders.
…
Zubaidy said that his U.S. officers ordered Iraqi soldiers to open fire on the angry crowd in Shulla. “The American officers hysterically ordered us to shoot the ‘traitors’,” he recalls, ** “We were not asked beforehand to go fight our people in Shulla. If we had been….we would have resigned at the camp right away.”
…
Many Iraqi soldiers refused to fire, abandoned their weapons and fled from the scene, says Zubaidy. Another soldier from the battalion, Hamid Tamimi from Dijeil district in Salahuddin province, says some Iraqi troops even turned against the Americans and opened fire on U.S. personnel while chanting slogans and songs glorifying Sadr and his late father. **
The second group got a different reception. Eyewitnesses at the Taji base report seeing the startling sight of soldiers from the 2nd battalion clad only in their underwear. “I was surprised to see more than 30 soldiers barefoot with only their underclothes on,” says Qais Al-Dulaimi, a contractor for the Baghdad Tower Contracting Company involved in U.S.-supervised reconstruction work in the camp. When Dulaimi asked an Iraqi officer about the nearly naked soldiers, the officer replied that they were being punished for disobeying military orders. “I served in the army for more than ten years without experiencing anything like this,” says Dulaimi.
What so unusual (or funny in your case) about this? The Iraqis have become famous for their lack of fighting and courage in the battlefield. I bet you bought into the whole “Mother of All Battles” thing, didn’t you? Let’s face it, not everyone can measure up to a US Marine. :soldier:
What so funny!!! LOL.... you tell me also tell us now what you call em since they turned their guns on terrorists and invaders.. TERRORIST.... that would be mother of all jokes. As of meauring up to bunch of pussies the less said the better you have not gone through the history books.
^ you can hardly handle a rag tag bunch without begging every Tom Dick and Harry to send cannon fodders. We all know your response to nations with armies.... :)

Yes we do, it was called WWII.
In ‘Your’ nation if you beat yourself up on the streets with a thousand other people during Muharram, they’ll all lock you up or send you on parole for psychiatric counselling!!
Dunno about that, after all it is the Iraqi’s that have had the US militay pinned down in Fallujah and other places all over Iraq in the last month. In just a few weeks these Iraqi fighters have left over 700 American soldiers injured or killed. :k:
The US death toll doesn't add up to surrender...does it? You mean there's no war and the US invaders are all dying from dysentry? Maybe if Bush told you that it would make more of an impact?

No, they are dying from terrorists who like to kill anyone they don't like. That still doesn't mean they the US did not succeed in removing saddam and taking voer iraq over a matter of weeks. US could just as well leave now and bomb iraq if it casues trouble and not worry about a new government.

What do you mean by? The cronies of a dictator who was on the west's payroll? Or do you mean the un armed Iraqi population? If it were for the latter, they would have given tough resistance. And they did in whatever means they could - like that Iraqi farmer bringing down the coalation copter with his shot gun.

Saddam was anti-american and that is why so many on these forums loved him and were heart broken when he was found hiding in a cave.
And if you really believe a helicopter was bought down by a farmer with a 1950's shot gun, then you also likely believe the stories of al sahaf that no tanks ever entered baghdad and americans were have their stomachs roasted.

Didn't you know that Bush declared "victory" nearly a year ago, but somehow some 650 occupation soldiers have been killed since. Or did they surrender to the Iraqi's?
