“What have we done to deserve all this? We have been living in wars for over 20 years,” said Jihad Hashem, a technician. “We have paid dearly for something we haven’t done.”

Looks like a massacre against civilians in Basra.. :frowning:

On television, the images of bombings in Iraq come daily, but there has been little information about the scope of casualties and injuries among Iraqi civilians and soldiers. In the southern Iraqi city Basra, 50 people were reportedly killed on Saturday after being bombed by a U.S. fighter jet, Arab broadcaster al-Jazeera reported. The station broadcasted images of dead civilians, including a decapitated child, and injured patients being treated in a local hospital. Hospital workers told the station that entire families and even a Russian national had been killed in the air strikes.

Officially, the Iraqi military has reported 77 deaths and 366 injuries in Basra. The bombing attacks in Baghdad, meanwhile, injured at least 100 people during the first three days alone, the International Committee of the Red Cross reported. On Saturday, the Iraqi government reported at least 200 injuries and deaths in Baghdad, and journalists were taken to hospitals to interview alleged civilian victims. By comparison, Britain and the U.S. have so far lost 23 soldiers in the war. …

Mass deaths forecast
It’s still too early to tell how many casualties the war will create, but one international organization has published gloomy forecasts. In November, the Nobel Prize-winning International Physicians for the Prevention of Nuclear War issued a report with estimates of the short-, mid- and longterm consequences of a war against Iraq. In a war lasting only three months, the study predicted, between 48,700 and 261,000 deaths should be expected. But the estimates did not include deaths that would result from the side-effects of war. The organization said that the breakdown of Iraq’s infrastructure alone could lead to the deaths of as many as 200,000 through infections and other illnesses. Full Article

Iraq Says 62 Killed, Over 400 Wounded in Past Day

Lives of these innocent civilians are so cheap, it seems. They have no defence against the state of the art military hardware. Such casualties are expected to rise as the coalition troops reach Bag Dad (Brit Sec. Of Defence Goon said, they will reach there by Tuesday)

**Iraq Says 62 Killed, Over 400 Wounded in Past Day **

Mon March 24, 2003 06:15 AM ET
BAGHDAD (Reuters) - Iraq’s information minister said on Monday that 62 Iraqis had been killed by U.S.-led forces in the previous 24 hours and more than 400 had been wounded.
Minister Mohammed Saeed al-Sahaf gave the figures at a news conference, breaking them down by city. In Baghdad, 194 people had been wounded in bombing but none had been killed. The most deaths were 30 in Babel, south of Baghdad, and 14 in Basra.

He said there were also deaths and injuries in the southern towns of Najaf and Kerbala, in the southern province Qadisiya and in the northern provinces of Ninawa and Salah ad Din.

“They insist to strike civilian areas in a criminal manner and those evil people believe that by expanding their war crimes they can weaken us. They are not only criminals, but idiots, for believing that,” Sahaf said.

The United States and Britain launched war on Iraq on Thursday to overthrow President Saddam Hussein for his alleged weapons of mass destruction. Baghdad denies it has such arms

The Anglo-Saxon war criminals are firing missiles at practically every one of Iraq's neighbours which shows their disregard for the lives of others. So unfortunately these latest atrocities against Iraqi civilians come as no surprise, it just proves what many have been saying all along.

Al-Jazeera Uncovered the Truth

We should contact BBC News24 and all the rest of these one sided reporters to complain about the de-humanisation of the Iraqi people by minimising the viewing of victims from the bombing campaign. Just see for yourself. (Funny how the link takes ages to load up)

Al-Jazeera Uncovered the Truth / Horrific Images from Iraq

Horrific images have been shown today(Saturday 22nd March) on the Arabic satellite channel Aljazeera of the victims of U.S. bombardment of Al-Basra and the positions of two Islamic groups in Iraq’s Kurdistan. The Al-Basra victims, 50 of whom have met their death while more than a hundred have been wounded, were all civilians. It is extremely worrying that these reports and images, which have been carried out or shown on Aljazeera TV and are posted on the Aljazeera website: (http://www.aljazeera.net/news/arabic/2003/3/3-22-26.htm) have not been reported or shown on any of the British or American TV stations.

According to reports from Washington, the U.S. authorities are imposing a total blackout on these reports and the images of the victims. Since the start of this war both American and British military and political spokespersons have been boasting of a “precise targeting”. Faced with massive opposition to the war, both domestically and internationally, both governments have been concerned about any reaction to reports of indiscriminate killing or maiming of Iraqis.

Although, such critical reports of human deaths and suffering were supported by evidence and broadcasted through international media such as Al-Jazeera, the British media has failed miserably to report civilian casualties of American and British military forces’ use of overwhelming force to attack Iraq.

Mainstream British media’s continuous failure to maintain unbiased reporting of events taking place in Iraq, casts dark shadow upon its so called democratic values of journalistic conduct, sadly at the same time questioning integrity of some elements of the media.

The British public only demands to know what is going on, what is the truth, so it is the responsibility of the media to exercise unbiased reporting during such a critical time.

The Muslim Association of Britain requests the British media only to stand steadfastly behind the principles of journalistic honesty and integrity in reporting events and issues.

We call on all of you to contact the media and ask them why they did not show these images!!

Civilians are dying in Iraq, but nobody knows how many, Yahoo News, Niko Price, 25 March 2003

…] The Web site www.IraqBodyCount.net which compiles news reports, gives a minimum count on civilian casualties of 199, and a maximum of 278. The range is due to conflicting reports.

Iraqi officials have reported more than 200 civilian casualties.

Coalition Bomb Market - 15 Innocent killed.

So much for precision bombing.

‘Many casualties’ in Baghdad market

nothi surprising !!

A market in the Iraqi capital Baghdad has been hit in an air raid by US-led coalition forces, the Iraqi authorities say.

Reuters news agency correspondents say they have seen at least 15 burnt bodies near three badly damaged apartment buildings in a residential area of the city.

Several cars nearby were on fire or smouldering, they added. …

I am sure it will be called "collateral damage" or the Iraqi soldiers fighting in civilian clothes.

This is horrible, and a war crime. But I am sure this will be downplayed and the usual pathetic exuses made.

Score one for Saddam.

This war should have never happened. No one wins a war. Humanity loses.

sad very sad, its not called WAR but American Terrorism.

Reuters news agency correspondents say they have seen at least 15 burnt bodies, while some local people have said the number of dead could be as high as 45.

If that is not terrorism, what is?

Which civilian-bomb-shelter was hit by an American Cruise Missile in the '91 Gulf-War ? I think it was named "Al-Hamiriyat" or somthing like that .... does anybody have more info ? Reportedly, about 300-400 civilians were killed then .
