Iraq attack 'kills seven people'

**Seven people have been killed in a series of bomb attacks on police in the Iraqi town of Hit, in western Anbar province, reports say.**They include local anti-terror chief Maj Walid al-Hiti, the AFP news agency reported.

The attackers planted bombs in four houses belonging to police which went off early in the morning, it said.

Six other people were said to have been injured in the attacks, including women and children from the four families.

The attack comes a week after twin suicide blasts in the provincial capital Ramadi killed 25 people and severely injured regional Governor Qassim Mohammed.

Correspondents say violence has been rising as Iraq prepares for a March general election.

Anbar has been generally quiet since tribal leaders turned against al-Qaeda in 2006, they say.
