Im not defending Assad but just trying to understand so I’ll ask again.
What did Assad do to his own population prior to the Arab spring which was much worse compared to what the leaders of Saudi, Bahrain, Egypt, Jordan etc did to their populace?

You clearly are defending him. My question is not what he did before the Arab Spring, but rather after that is the point of discussion. He used chemical weapons against the Syrian civilians, his government support militias and armed forces butchered hundreds of thousands of civilians.
