Im not defending Assad but just trying to understand so I’ll ask again.
What did Assad do to his own population prior to the Arab spring which was much worse compared to what the leaders of Saudi, Bahrain, Egypt, Jordan etc did to their populace?

Seriously, saudis and bahrain is comparable to syria? At least, compare it to Jordan even though Black September was in 1970 and recently , no one has come close to assad in the arab world. Egyptian military might be a runner up against MB but they have yet to gas anyone.
