^ Uncle Stalker, fashions come and go, however, Iranian no-tie seems to be a policy statement (probably by the government or the religious authority) so there is a big difference.
Similar to what others have said, I have heard they don't wear it because it symbolizes cross (although in my view, it symbolizes a 'T' more than a 'cross') and represents the bad bad western societies. I think its a fine policy. Ties are so over-rated. They are a bad piece of dress. Years from now, when ties are extinct, people will look back at the pictures and say what a funny dress (just like we do when seeing pictures of men wearing wigs and tights).
