Iranians and Ties

Why is that Iranian men do not wear ties? I always see their president, and other Iranian officials in the media wearing suits, but never a tie. I was looking at the pictures from their recent military parade, and all the military officials were decked out in their formal military uniforms and buttoned up shirts, but no ties. Is there any particular reason for this?

Re: Iranians and Ties

Something to do with the tie signifying the cross?

Re: Iranians and Ties

they think ties symbolise the cross

Re: Iranians and Ties

i still do not understand how on earth can someone think that tie symbolises a cross....

Re: Iranians and Ties

Actually it is all explained in his book - http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0684832801/sr=1-3/qid=1145650285/ref=pd_bbs_3/104-4674812-9006360?%5Fencoding=UTF8&s=books

Very good book. They basically do not want to adopt western culture due to history. The shah, the UK and US massacres in Iran, destroying the democracy.

Re: Iranians and Ties

Yes. The neck tie does symbolize the christian cross. It is considered holy in the west. In the UK, if you ridicule someone and touch their tie, you will be fined as per law.

Re: Iranians and Ties

:konfused: i had no idea… can somone explain?

Re: Iranians and Ties

Then why do they wear the rest of the suit? Why not stick to traditional Persian clothes?

Pant, shirt, suit, tie are universal clothing not associated with any part of the world in particular any more.

Re: Iranians and Ties

ties are made of silk

Re: Iranians and Ties

I've heard Muslims saying ties are haram coz they mock suicide or look like the cross or something..

Re: Iranians and Ties

:hehe: thats first time I heard that.

Re: Iranians and Ties

then why wear pants and shirt?

sarah thats hilarious

Re: Iranians and Ties

we still dont have a valid reason, why?

Re: Iranians and Ties

So do also Indian leaders. Too hot may be?

Re: Iranians and Ties

They want to wear a pant, shirt - Fine.
They dont want to wear a tie - their choice.

I am NOT an iranian and have never worn a tie in my life. Although my dress code is pant shirt, for the most formal occasions too, I go tie-less

A few years ago in Pakistan, wearing a malmal ka kurta with Jeans was the IN thing to do. Nobody objected to that :D

Re: Iranians and Ties

^ Uncle Stalker, fashions come and go, however, Iranian no-tie seems to be a policy statement (probably by the government or the religious authority) so there is a big difference.

Similar to what others have said, I have heard they don't wear it because it symbolizes cross (although in my view, it symbolizes a 'T' more than a 'cross') and represents the bad bad western societies. I think its a fine policy. Ties are so over-rated. They are a bad piece of dress. Years from now, when ties are extinct, people will look back at the pictures and say what a funny dress (just like we do when seeing pictures of men wearing wigs and tights).

Re: Iranians and Ties

ties rock..

Re: Iranians and Ties

now that u say this, what purpose does a tie really serve???

Re: Iranians and Ties

it holds your tie-pin in place

Re: Iranians and Ties

^

It looks good, either way, wear it or not it is their choice :k:

The idea that ties resemble cross is mostly heard in subcontienent.

I was also clueless for quite a long time that how on earth this tie resembles a cross :konfused: but then i saw a clips of an indian old movie and there Prem chopra was wearing that tie which actually resembles the cross …

Modern ties are different, and these ties are like old fashion but still we get to hear that because no one bothers to change this century old verdict, which is outdated and does not hold true, today.
