Iran urges UN inquiry into wars

**Iran’s president has urged the UN to launch an investigation into the aims of Western military actions in Afghanistan and Iraq.**The office of Secretary General Ban ki-Moon said that it was studying the letter from Mahmoud Ahmadinejad but had no comment.

Mr Ahmadinejad asked the UN to set up a fact-finding team.

Tensions are growing over Iran’s nuclear programme, and its rising anger at Washington’s nuclear policy.

The fact-finding team requested by Iran’s president would investigate the intentions and results of Western military action in Afghanistan and Iraq.

He said that, so far, the invasions had only victimised people in the region, and he declared that US and Nato methods of fighting terrorism had failed.

‘State terrorism’

It was not immediately clear what had prompted the letter but it comes amidst rising tensions over Iran’s nuclear programme, which the West fears has military aims.

That is something Tehran denies and it is pushing back as the US tries to build momentum for tightening UN sanctions.

Recently, Iran displayed new technology for enriching uranium.

It is also preparing its own nuclear disarmament conference to counter the one hosted by Washington this week.

And on Monday Iran’s UN ambassador, Mohammad Khazaee, told a panel here in New York that Washington’s new nuclear weapons policy was state terrorism.

US President Barack Obama made clear last week that Iran and North Korea were excluded from new limits on America’s use of atomic weapons.

Iranian lawmakers responded furiously to what they saw as a threat of nuclear attack. Iran insists its own nuclear programme is for generating energy, not for building weapons. This article is from the BBC News website. © British Broadcasting Corporation, The BBC is not responsible for the content of external internet sites.

lol U.N is incapable and ineffective

Re: Iran urges UN inquiry into wars

I think Ahmedinejad is a clown and a menace to his own people but I do agree that UN should conduct an investigation. While I agree with the US decision to remove Saddam and the Taleban, I suspect Cheney and gang have hidden some stuff that should be brought to light.

Many think that Bush is a monkey and both him and Zionist leaders are war criminals.

Try talking facts, not personalities.

Iraq war was an illegitimate war based on deception and lies on behalf of Apartheid regime of Zionism.

I have no problem with you thinking of Bush anyway you like. But the type of person must be taken into account while discussing things they say or involved in.

Did you not see the rest of my sentence agreeing that even though he is a clown (meaning usually you just ignore the idiot) in this case indeed an investigation is called for?

Re: Iran urges UN inquiry into wars

Iranians are the first one to write UN under their shoes, and they are the ones trying to bust the UN sanctions.

If they have such hostility towards UN, then how can they ask the same organization to listen to what Iran has to say.

Re: Iran urges UN inquiry into wars

^ hence the title of clown

Re: Iran urges UN inquiry into wars

Hey the US asks the UN to do stuff but doesn't follow its rules.

So in your words, Iran is trying to be US?

hahahahah

Kiya piddi aur kiya piddi ka shorba.

^^ WTF........... double standards?

Do you believe US invasion of Iraq & Afghanistan was justified? Not two opposite sides of the same coin?

Iran is exposing the UN's hypocrisy. Not that its not known to the people of the world but good on Iran for voicing it out loud. As a result now you have countries like Brazil (UN Security Council member) and Turkey too taking a strong stance on double standards.

hhaaah. Big words for a pipsqueak of a country.

Hypocritical countries cannot blame others for the the same thing.

If you are eating sweets, how could you tell others that sweets are bad?

There is an old addage.

pipsqueak/hypocritical country?

Soot na kapaas, kolhi say latthum luttha

Good for iran....the rest of the world seems to have collective amnesia.

Re: Iran urges UN inquiry into wars

Frankly its a legally and morally valid request. Shame it won't happen.
