Planning a trip to Iran and would love some first hand info from anyone who has been there. Looking more for historical, scenic places to visit. Any tips for must see places, specially hotels and areas to stay at, food etc? TIA.

I was there in February.. When are you going? Are you staying in Tehran or travelling around the country to other places like Shiraz and Isfahan?
They don't accept any of our western credit or debit cards so you should take plenty of cash with you, that's probably the most important thing.. The people are lovely, really hospitable and it's very safe.. We used to walk around at 1/2 in the morning and never got any hassle.. Iran is one of those countries people are always nervous about visiting because of its international reputation but out of all the Muslim countries I've been to it's been by far the easiest and most enjoyable.. You can see the sanctions have hit hard as Tehran itself looks poor (except for the exclusive northern part) but the culture and experience is just amazing.. I'm hoping to visit again this Xmas..

Thanks Deeba that was an imp tip! We are planning to go at the start of October and will be moving around the country. We don't plan to stay much in Tehran(is there much to see in Tehran though?) ..our list of cities might include Isphan, Shiraz , Mashhad
