Iran puts United Nations and European Union's credibility on the line

Would be interesting if decisive and irrefutable evidence came forward showing that Iran had a nuclear weapons program. The credibility of both the UN and EU would be shot and the Bush doctrine of pre-emptive strike would be vindicated. To think that an Iranian nuke could give the U.S. a more dominate position on the global stage, crazy isn’t it?

Re: Iran puts United Nations and European Union's credibility on the line

Actually I have a question. I can understand why Pakistan and Israel would acquire Nuclear bombs due to a real threat (Israel) and perceived threat (Pakistan). But why Iran and North Korea?

Re: Iran puts United Nations and European Union’s credibility on the line

I agree, your crazy.

1)US lost any credibilty it had, on WMD Issue.
2) She’s got a long way to go to gain it back.

Re: Iran puts United Nations and European Union's credibility on the line

Europe checks off, next up the UN, see how this works?

Re: Iran puts United Nations and European Union's credibility on the line

So if the UN doesn't toe the US and EU line, it somehow loses credibility?

Re: Iran puts United Nations and European Union’s credibility on the line

Because a country that Iran has been in a a state of war with for decades has armed itself with nuclear weapons during that war. In a war, it is somewhat of a misbalance of power if only one side has the nukes.

Because North Korea only has a cease fire with the USA , not a peace treaty. In other words North Korea is still in a state of war with the world’s most powerful nuclear power. In such a war, North Korea would be extremely disadvantaged if its opponent has nuclear arms and it does not.

Wow I replied to a post so old the the poster was Verizon rather than GavrilowhatchamacallitPrincip.

Re: Iran puts United Nations and European Union's credibility on the line

IF the UN accepts Iran’s stance that it's creating this nuclear program for peaceful purposes and unquestionable evidence comes forth that shows that's not true the first victim of Iran’s nuke will be the UN, figuratively o0f course, quote me on that later.

Re: Iran puts United Nations and European Union's credibility on the line

Frankly I wouldn't mind a UN collapse. The UN in its current form is too vulnerable to being manipulated by the security council into carrying out acts that lead to the suffering of millions, such as the Iraq Sanctions.

The UN should be dismantled and replaced with regional organisations for peacekeeping and a more democratic, representative structure for international affairs. It represents an old political order rather than the globalised world of today.

Re: Iran puts United Nations and European Union's credibility on the line

^
I don't disagree with you but I don't think that's the direction it would turn towards right now. Do you think China, Russia, or the Bush admin, want that?

Re: Iran puts United Nations and European Union's credibility on the line

China and Russia do not want any action taken against Iran either.

Re: Iran puts United Nations and European Union’s credibility on the line

Like the irrefutable evidence that Israel does have nuclear weapons you mean?

Or the irrefutable evidence that Iraq did not?

Re: Iran puts United Nations and European Union's credibility on the line

The UN has credibility since when ?

Re: Iran puts United Nations and European Union’s credibility on the line

What’s losing credibility is the idea that diplomacy or sanctions are more effective than a pre-emptive strike.

Re: Iran puts United Nations and European Union’s credibility on the line

Just a quick note to say that I’m glad you’re still here AK. Guppieville just wouldn’t be the same w/out you.

Re: Iran puts United Nations and European Union’s credibility on the line

Just for the record, this is the one and only time AK47 and have ever or will ever agree.

Back to your regular bickering…

Re: Iran puts United Nations and European Union's credibility on the line

The UN is just a tool used by the likes of Britain and the US, when it suits them even when the UN says its illegal to do something the US and UK will do illegal wars anyway breaking any international laws that they signed.

The muslim countries are complete idiots for joining the UN in the first place, all they get from the UN is sanctions and declarations of war!

Re: Iran puts United Nations and European Union's credibility on the line

Iran be careful the so called allies are brininging you in their trap!! all media is presenting the USa or 3 european countries opinions but not hwo the Iranians see the matter. Iran feels it is complying but the allies are trying to proove failure to comply!! the same story is repteating again!! i.e Iraq!! But will USa disarm a few bomb here there to show there peaceful aims!!

Re: Iran puts United Nations and European Union’s credibility on the line

that is incorrect again

I never supported the UN i know its whole ideals and history of its conception and i rejected it from the beginning you only reject the UN now because it does’nt comply with yout states interests, previously when the UN declared war in Iraq in gulf war 1 i am sure you along with the rest of the right wingers where all to happy to use the UN card as an excuse to bomb iraq.

Re: Iran puts United Nations and European Union's credibility on the line

I have a few questions what issues of credibility are there? I mean what is wrong? A country who is not a party to the CTBT or the NPT is establishing a nuclear program. Not sure how the UN or EU are responsible for that? The UN has never stated that Iran did not have nuclear ambitions. Everybody agrees they do and the Irani's have every right to follow through what is in their national interest. Whats wrong with that? The US does it daily.

If you are not bound by any international commitments you are free to do what you believe is part of your national interest.

Re: Iran puts United Nations and European Union's credibility on the line

The UN is impotent. If anyone knows anyone that works with them they know why.
