Ahmadinejad offers all-out aid to tragedy
President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad here Monday expressed Iran’s readiness to provide all-out aid to the earthquake- hit Pakistani nation. A devastating earthquake, measuring 7.6 degrees on the Richter scale, devastated a 95-kilometer (60-mile) area northeast of the Pakistani capital, Islamabad, Saturday morning. The quake killed more than 20,000 people and buried hundreds alive in the rubble.
Ahmadinejad, in a telephone conversation with his Pakistani counterpart General Pervez Musharraf, expressed his condolences to the Pak government and nation for the tremendous devastation and loss of lives caused by the quake. “The Iranian government and nation will do their utmost to support the friendly nation of Pakistan. In announcing its readiness to dispatch aid, Tehran is ready to cooperate with the Pakistani officials,” he said. He hoped Pakistan will be able to surmount its problems from this quake through proper management by the country’s officials as well as the tolerance and resistance of its nation. Musharraf, for his part, expressed his appreciation for the Iranian president’s condolence message and said the quake was a big tragedy for his country. He said his government has called on the international community to dispatch help and praised Iran’s offer of humanitarian assistance.

Iranian Red Crescent Society’s second relief consignment forwarded to Pakistan
As dispatching relief consignments of Iran to South Asian devastating victims continues, the IRI Red Crescent Society (RCS) sent its second relief consignment Monday night to northern parts of Pakistan, that are worst hit by Saturday quake. Iranian RSC’s second relief consignment, carried by an Iranian Army cargo plane, included tents, blankets, carpets, medicine and foodstuff, weighing 34 tons altogether. Meanwhile, according to a communique issued by RSC Public Relations on the issue, the RSC relief and medical teams dispatched to Pakistan on Sunday night have been stationed in Katan District of Pakistan’s Mansreh Province. “They are taking advantage of their trained dogs to find survivors buried under debris, electronic mechanical devices for the same purpose, and hydraulic lifts and scissors, all aimed at immediate search for the buried victims and saving them before it gets too late,” according to the Iranian RCS communique.
**The Iranian Red Crescent has so far forwarded two relief consignments weighing sixty tons worth 147,500,000 rials (around U.S. $15 million) to Pakistan for the purpose. **

IKRC collects aids for quake victims
Imam Khomeini Relief Committee (IKRC) published a communique Monday night, announcing the foundation’s readiness for collecting cash and material donations of the “generous and philanthropist Iranian citizens” to south Asian earthquake victims. IKRC public relations affairs has in its communique condoled with the bereaved families of the quake victims, particularly expressing sympathy on tragic death of thousands of children, women, and elderly folks in the devastating event. It adds, “following the emphasis made by the Supreme Leader on the need to assist this earthquake’s victims and to try to decrease he pain they suffer, this committee opened account number 1178 at Bank Melli Iran, IKRC branch, code 526, in which the dear Iranian citizens can deposit their cash donations for the purpose.”
The Iranian citizens living abroad are requested to deposit their donations for the purpose in BMI hard currency account 333 at the same branch. IKRC public relations affairs has meanwhile announced the various branches of that foundation’s readiness across Iran to collect material and cash donations of the “noble Iranian nation” for the purpose. The communique at the end refers to some of the required items as “canned fruits and food, durable food items, blankets, and bottled drinking water.”

Ayatollah Khamenei condoles over heavy loss of life in Pakistan
ISLAMABAD, Oct 11 (APP): The leader of the Islamic Revolution in Iran Ayatollah Khamenei has expressed his deep condolence and sympathies to the people and government of Pakistan over the devastating earthquake that killed thousands and rendered many more homeless. In a message offered condolences to Pakistan, and also to the entire Islamic Ummah on the catastrophic incident. “The nation and government of the Islamic Republic of Iran consider themselves to share the grief of Pakistani brethren, and deem it as their duty to extend every sort of assistance that will alleviate their sufferings.”

Pakistan’s Interior Minister Aftab Ahmad Khan Sherpao thanked Iran’s president for relief aids to earthquake victims. Visiting Iran’s Red Crescent camp in Kaqan area, 230 kilometers north of Islamabad, on Wednesday, the Pakistani minister said, “President Ahmadinejad was one of the first officials who called our president and condoled with him on this tragic event.” He said Iranian relief team has settled in a remote and severely damaged area adding Pakistani people and government never forget these actions. Sherpao, at the end of his visit, expressed his government’s appreciation of Iran’s helpful aids. An earthquake measuring 7.6 degrees on Richter scale jolted areas in the north of Pakistan on October 8 and killed about 30,000 people.
