Iran is a proof that clergy cannot run countries - they should stick to mosques

Iran is a major oil and gas producer. And yet they are rationing and importing gasoline. This is the hight of mismanagement by the country’s natural resources.

Here is an article from last year, however the situation on the ground is still pretty much the same

Iran, low on gasoline, to be supplied by Venezuela - International Herald Tribune

TEHRAN: Venezuela agreed to sell Iran gasoline on Tuesday, less than a week after Iran unveiled a rationing program to limit its dependence on gasoline imports.

“The Iranian government has asked to buy gasoline from us, and we have accepted the request,” Rafael Ramrez, Venezuela’s energy minister, told the newspaper Shargh. He declined to specify the quantity of gasoline Venezuela would sell to Iran or at what price.

Iran, a major oil exporter, imports 40 percent of its gasoline because of high consumption and limited refining capacity. While gasoline costs about $2 a gallon on world markets, the government sells it for 34 cents, a subsidy that costs it about $5 billion a year.

Iran imports gasoline from 16 countries, including India, the Netherlands, France and the United Arab Emirates.

Energy analysts say Tehran began rationing gasoline last week primarily in an effort to cut gasoline consumption in anticipation of possible sanctions over its nuclear program. The United States Congress is considering a bill that would impose sanctions on any company selling gasoline to Iran, and the United Nations Security Council will meet in September to discuss tougher sanctions against Tehran.

“It is not clear whether it would be economical for Iran to import gasoline from Venezuela because of the long distance,” said Saeed Leylaz, an economist and political analyst in Tehran. “But it can certainly be very important if other countries refuse to sell us gasoline because of international pressure,” he added.

President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and Venezuela’s president, Hugo Chvez, who visited Tehran this week, are allied in their antipathy toward the United States. During Chvez’s visit, the countries signed a series of economic deals, including an agreement to build a dairy factory in Venezuela and a petrochemical plant on the Gulf.

The rationing plan, meanwhile, spurred demonstrations in Iran, as angry drivers set fire to more than a dozen gas stations last week and chanted slogans denouncing Ahmadinejad.

The Iranian president defended the policy on Monday, calling it an “economic revolution.”

“Stop this childish game and try not to make this victory bitter for people,” he told his opponents in a speech in Tehran, Shargh reported. “The Americans have also admitted that if Iran can control its energy consumption, it will become invincible.”

Re: Iran is a proof that clergy cannot run countries - they should stick to mosques

Really bizarre news.
Iranian can build missiles and have a nuclear program but don't have the intellectual capacity to build oil refiniries? They need to change their priorities.

Re: Iran is a proof that clergy cannot run countries - they should stick to mosques

^^ And your post is a proof that you can't stop, you just can't help it BPS, the craving is too much, is it just the craving?

yes it is. Isn't it?

That's a shame. Isn't it? Wrong priorities off course.

Clergy has set Iran into a course of death and destruction.

Thanks to clergy Iranians now chant more slogans about "death" like marg bar, than "life" (zindabad).

That's why it is a must that clergy should stick to their mosques and temples and let the ordinary mortals run governments that are non-religious, tolerant, and more connected to the rest of the world.

There's no such thing. All Iranians are intolerant. Another lie of yours. Do you ever get tired of lying?

Iran is also following the Sunnah of the Prophet, because the Prophet didn't stay in the mosque all the time and in fact condemned those who did. Why do you hate the Prophet Muhammad so much because he was a tribal?

What Iran has shown constantly in the last 30 years, is consistent leadership, great courage, immense patience and faith, and also two fingers to the pharoah of this time.

The amount of agression and propaganda Iran has had to face is unbelievable, from the iran-iraq war imposed on them, from western sanctions that continue to this day, the freezing of its assets in billions, the paranoid and incompetent arab neighbours, the false accusations and harshest scrutiny, the secre warfare, despite everything, iran has come out of it all surprisingly unscathed, and has responded by becoming one of the most advanced nations in the region.

Comapare that to the filthy rich saudis and arab nations, that still arent able to clean thier butts with out US written permission. Iran is a role model for those nations, it practically teaches them to stand for themselves, yet they choose to remain blind and holding grudges merely incase it hurts their (nonexistant) arab pride...they dont seem to understand, when it comes to the pharoah, Iran IS thier Moses!

Iran on the other hand has one of the best medical welfare system, one of world's best engineering university, pretty decent and modern infrastructure, has the best roads and highways (albeit the worst drivers), the highest female literacy rate in the region, (higher than the the male literacy rate), and contrary to popular belief, iranian women are free to drive, join the police, army, have a career, act, travel independently etc. equally alongside men. and on top of that, it is a beautiful country naturally, rich in culture and heritage, friendly, out going people. It is awesome.

Thirty years on and iran has much to celebrate and everything to look forward to. Not least its freedom and independence...Its most valuable asset. Ive noticed western and arab nations talk down to iranian leaders as if they are are illiterate, but as far as most of the muslims/civilised world is concerned, these presidents and prime ministers are not worth the sh1t on thier shoe. I mean think about it, what state was thier country in 30 years in? most likely killing and rampaging other tribes and nations.....wait a minute..they still are.....the barbarians.

Iran definately has its share of problems, and in due time, it will resolve them too hopefully, but the intense level of agression against them is totally unjustified and mind boggling.

Yes. Agreed.

These problems will be a lot less if Iran was not ruled by religious fanatics.

Poor Iranians went from Shah's frying pan, into religious fire. What a pity.

Sanctions are the result of nut-case policies of the clergy. Why it is so hard to understand? You play by the rules and no one will bother you.

Don't think Saudis and other rich and pro-West Arab nations are smelly! Or your experience was different?

Oh and before we all forget. The topic is based on this;

**
Iran, low on gasoline, to be supplied by Venezuela**

This is clearly the sign of HUGE mismanagement of the ONLY resource 'petroleum/gas that Iran has.

Iran's political system is one of the greatest and an exemplary to all the other under developed nations especially the Islamic states.

I remember two years back when Ahmedin came here to address Security council. His address astonished the whole lot of anlysts and left the critiques speechless. I remember one of US analysts saying on CNN that its one of the best speech he has ever heard in his life.

Those who see it as a failure live in fool's paradise. Burqa's initial note in the thread is more of his wish than anything else. But his wish is the same as the those who were sitting in the white house in last regime or those in Tel-Aviv. But fortunately things not always happen what they want. They have been doing their best to isolate Iran and not let it prosper but so far Iran is doing fine. I know its not one of the best economies but there are evident reasons for that.

However, one thing I dont want Iran's govt to do is to making war or hatred chants for others, stop diverting people to whether holocaust happened or not, rather focus on their own state, prosper it economically, socially as well as defensively. We all know that Iran has been on the hit-list of Israel and whenever it gets a chance it'll atleast do the same as it did with Egypt once. i.e. destroy its nukes.

Few good years for Iran and it may emerge as much better state than what it is now. I just wish this country a good luck!

Re: Iran is a proof that clergy cannot run countries - they should stick to mosques

burqa:

Another lie Who said clergy is running Iran? Majority of its law makers, including the President himself, are not clergy-men.

Its oil minister is an engineer, for example.

http://goliath.ecnext.com/coms2/gi_0199-6499566/IRAN-Gholam-Hossein-Nozari.html
“The Deputy Oil Minister and CEO of the state-owned National Iranian Oil Co. (NIOC), Nozari is an engineer…”

Here is a list of other ministers. Let us know how many of them are only clergy-men and not the experts of their fields.

The reason Iran has trouble is its spirit of independence and refusal to obey Zionist American administrations.

If you think a peaceful and orderly transition of Prez is the key to a greatest political system, then you are right.

However political systems is just a government system in its core. And good government system must provide -------------------- you guess it!!! Good governance.

Chinese do not have a political system (your words) so to speak, and yet they have much better "governance" compared to the largest democracies in the world aka India.

Thus if you consider the important aspect of "governance" in the Iranian case, you will find that it had failed miserably in the last 30 years. News of an Oil producer, and not knowing how to build/maintain refineries is just a clear example of MIS-GOVERNANCE.
