Re: Iran Develops Its Own Fighter Plane

Wow, that is some great 1960's technology.

Re: Iran Develops Its Own Fighter Plane

Iranians claim this aircraft as a stealth aircraft

Re: Iran Develops Its Own Fighter Plane

F-5's, what the U.S. navy practices against.

Re: Iran Develops Its Own Fighter Plane

Yep.. Pretty much useless stuff. But I guess they need it for replacements.

Re: Iran Develops Its Own Fighter Plane

Not going to stand a chance against Israeli or U.S. fighters but could be a thorn for bombers.

Re: Iran Develops Its Own Fighter Plane

Nonetheless, its an okay development. Atleast they gain some experience in the field.

Re: Iran Develops Its Own Fighter Plane

After seeing Merkava getting ripped, I wouldn't say that :CareBear:

Re: Iran Develops Its Own Fighter Plane

^ Because one weapon didn't perform up to expectations translates to now all weaponry is inferior?

Your armchair military "analysis" is laughable. :CareBear:

Re: Iran Develops Its Own Fighter Plane

Iran is making the same mistake today that the Shah did. The Shah spent every petro dollar he could lay his hands on buying military weapons. The people of Iran got very little of the petro dollars and soon became disillusioned and the only ones who eventually supported him were his favored patrons. That opened the door for his opponents to overthrow him. The same thing is happening today. Iran is no longer a theocracy, it is an autocracy. Khatahmei pulls the strings and President Nutjob dances. Iran has 50 percent of it's population under the age of 27, and they have huge unemployment. Foreign capital has fled. There are no jobs for young people, and all of the petro dollars are going to nuclear weapons and war machines. The youth will become restless. It is just a matter of time. Pride in some bomb or some copycat plane is small comfort for a failed economy.

Re: Iran Develops Its Own Fighter Plane

I don't know if it is the arm-chair military analysis you should be laughing at or actual military analysis pre-Afghanistan/Iraq invasion where soldiers were supposed to be welcomed with flower-garlands for freeing up the population, or laugh at someone who declared war over barely after 2-3 months but lot more soldiers died afterwards etc. You pick, you can either laugh at arm-chair military analysis above or your national heroes making disastrous mistakes one after the other destroying lives of thousands of civilians, or you can cry.

Re: Iran Develops Its Own Fighter Plane

Wow, how many disparate, off-topic subjects can one bring up in a post? You should know better. :nono1:

If you can’t answer my response to your silly giggling, just say so.

Re: Iran Develops Its Own Fighter Plane

^ What I am trying to show you is that what you consider as real military analysis has been proven to be more laughable than an arm-chair-military-analysis, not just one time, multiple number of times, now you can continue with laughing at arm-chair-military-analysis.

Re: Iran Develops Its Own Fighter Plane

Wake me when Iran develops some kind of Awacs command and control aircraft. Until then one little jet, or 50 little jets are simply missle targets for more sophisticated air forces. This jet would not get near the airspace of any foe in the Gulf, nor is it much good at defending Iran against Israel or the US.

Muslims just amaze me. They take something like this and puff themselves up with chest beating pride, in hopes of becoming equal with their foes. Better to respond with commerce, jobs, science, manufacturing, and measure success a little differently. But that would require hard work and competeing with the rest of the world. To do that you would have to replace victimology with a culture of competition, anti-corruption and success. Copying 50 year old technology is unimpressive. Copying Chinese missles is unimpressive. Contracting with the Russians to build a reactor is unimpressive.

Nuclear capability is 60 year old technology. Building a jet is 50 year old technology. To truely catch up to the west will require years of progress, and that means peace and hard work. I doubt the Iranians are up for it..... Beyond a few flashy video clips their economy is a wreck. These people cant even make enough gasoline for their own consumption. Not very impressive.

Re: Iran Develops Its Own Fighter Plane

^
Important factors:
i) Range
ii) Weapons

With (most likely) Russian engines and Russian weapon system's, I wouldn't let the airframe take the spotlight.

Would this plane last in a dog fight? Who cares...most air-air fights take place over vast distances now days, thanks to BVR systems.

Re: Iran Develops Its Own Fighter Plane

Thats not the point of this topic....

Iran basically managed to stick some nuts and bolts and create a reverse engineered F-5....

As for the Merkava Tanks, they performed up to par where as it took atleast 5 missiles to knock one out....

It was Israeli intelligence failure that Hezbollah Terrorists have anti-tank missiles or other wise they would have changed their tactics....

Re: Iran Develops Its Own Fighter Plane

Oh, is that what you were doing, putting yourself on par with government analysts? Sorry, I don't respect the real analysts any more than I do your biased and uninformed views. They have ulterior motives as well. But at least they are ecducated on the subject and not just beating their chests because a Muslim country is delveoping an jet, whether it is even effective or not. Besides it's not nice to laugh at the Israelis, they have been beating up on their Muslim neighbors for decades. Giggling and chest puffing isn't going to change that.

Re: Iran Develops Its Own Fighter Plane

Eventhough the technology is old, what it shows is that they are moving forward in weapons technology. I think its a big leap Iran.

Re: Iran Develops Its Own Fighter Plane

What it shows that Iran is incapable of making a Fighter of its own and the only thing they can do is Soup Up an old F-5 Jet which was given to them in the early 1970's from USA

Well Done Iran.......

:)

I thought there was a reason behind the words armchair military "analysis".

I agree

We all know that, what their education resulted in is an open book for world to see in Iraq and Afghanistan.
