Iran has reached a key stage in its uranium enrichment programme, says ex-President Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani.

Iran operated 164 centrifuges for the first time, achieving “industrial output”, Mr Rafsanjani told Kuwait’s Kuna news agency.
If confirmed it would be the first time Iran has produced enriched uranium since resuming research in February.
Last month, the UN Security Council gave Iran 30 days to halt its nuclear research or run the risk of action.
But on Tuesday, halfway through the 30-day period, Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad was again defiant, saying Iran would “soon join the club of countries that have nuclear technology”. Western powers fear Iran is developing a nuclear bomb. Iran says its nuclear programme is for civilian use
