Dr Iqbal is widely known as the Poet of the East and most of his works are in Persian and Urdu.
One of the most prominent leaders of the All India Muslim League, he encouraged the creation of a “state in northwestern India for Indian Muslims” in his 1930 presidential address.
He is officially recognised as Pakistan’s “national poet”.
Dr Iqbal was also considered the foremost Muslim thinker of his day.
His poetry and philyosophy stress the rebirth of Islamic and spiritual redemption through self-development, moral integrity, and individual freedom, say organisers.
His works include the Secrets of the Self, A Message from the East and the Reconstruction of Religious Thought in Islam.
"The theme of Iqbaliyat is for the understanding of the way Dr Iqbal showed and sought the realities of the world.
“All of his poetry, prose, philosophy and even his life are a source of inspiration for mankind and the Muslim world in particular.”
