Iqbal Qasim spills the beans: "The Captain and Coach wanted Sami over Junaid"

He should not have said this publicly imo. very unprofessional

How does Junaid feel now about Whatmore and Hafeez, who are not willing to rate him as a T20 bowler despite him doing quite well for Lancashire?

And what does it tell us about Qasim’s authority as chief selector if he doesn’t believe in the selection of certain players, yet has to tow the line of the captain and coach

Don't get me wrong. I believe the captain should have a major (if not the final or decisive) say on team selection for he is the one who has to take the major blame for any abject performances/defeats (so it's only fair imo)

But the chief selector should not be a passive player either.

In Australia for instance, the captain (Michael Clarke) is an integral part of the three-member selection committee.

Imran Khan liked to have a huge say in the squad selections, that is one of the things he wrote about in his autobiography 'All-Round View'. When the PCB asked him to become captain, Imran put this as a pre-requisite that he will have an active say in selection

But then, Hafeez is no Imran Khan. I seriously doubt that Imran would have insisted on Sami's inclusion in place of Junaid

I agree, these idiots should seal their lips on why a player is selected/not selected in the team. Just a day or two ago they told everyone about why Ahmad Shehzad (?) was not selected.
