No. It is absolutely not necessary to praise Iqbal on Iqbal day. It should not be a day to praise anyway. We praise Pakistan on Pakistan day, does it make any difference? 
The politics of sub-continent, or of Pakistanis in the context of the current off-tangent discussion, is such that every one thinks of the other as idiot. Not that I disagree with the part of Babar Awan being idiot. But calling names is not a very bright idea on a discussion forum in my humble opinion.
