ok so my ipod was working fine…i wanted to get rid of all music and photos so i thought i’ll click on restore (as it goes back to factory settings…god knows why i did that)…now it just says ‘ipod cannot be restored…unknown error occured’…i tried to follow the steps on help menu, the ones i could understood.
(i did it using mac computer on itunes)
so anyone knows the solution to this. i hope its not ‘take it to one of those local shops’
If your device was jailbroken then you need to change the hosts file and run the restore process again.
Goto “Finder”
Click: Shift+Cmd+G
Type: /private/etc/
browse for hosts file
Copy to desktop
open file by double click
Find where it states gs.apple.com
On each line where it states gs.apple.com put a pound or hash sign before it … #
Close save
Drag hosts from desktop back to folder and replace - authenticate if necessary
Restart computer
Open itunes
Plug cable in
Close ipod touch
Connect ipod touch
switch on
Restore procedure again
If that does not work then you can try:
download and install Blackra1n - that will throw you out of recovery mode Blackra1n
thanks for all the replies. but sadly nothing worked...my ipod is not jail broken so could not try that above issue....and that blackra1 thing seems to be crashing on mac and on windows....seems like i'll have to take it to apple/pc expert or find another solution.
