Ipod vs...everything else

so i’m outgrowing my nano and i wanted a new one, to store pictures and videos as well as maybe get usic videos on it (how, ill figure that out later)…, so i was looking at the 80 gb ipod that’s for 249, but i think this time i’d like to look around some more.

So..what is a good alternative to an Ipod?

What is the benefit to having a non-apple MP3 player, other than price? no seriously.. after about two years, my ipod nano’s battery life is very weak now, plus i really hate how apple comes out with new stuff so soon after i buy it and they decrease the price ofit…

Re: Ipod vs...everything else

There are plenty of video players out there (Creative, Zune, Sansa etc), but iPod has by far the most accessories available. It has most built-in compatibility relationships with vehicle manufacturers, receivers etc.

Feature for feature, no doubt, iPod offers less bang for the buck, and some people don't like being chained to iTunes, but there is a reason it is so popular. It has a great user interface, and if you like iTunes, then there is no match with anything else on the market. Battery life certainly is an issue with most Apple products.

A general rule of thumb do your research BEFORE buying, but that once you buy a gadget or electronic equipment, stop checking its price (it always goes down) and don't worry about new versions/updates coming later (you will ALWAYS be disappointed).

Re: Ipod vs...everything else

Ok originally i planned to get the classic ipod (80 GB wala) but now i'm reconsidering, and planning on just getting the 8 gb nano....and buy a shuffle for someone as a gift (see i'm nice!)....i just hope it will fit everything i have.. oh and another plus point, if i give back my old ipod, they give me a 10% discount on whatever i buy from them...

Nano is fine.

Personally I don't like Shuffle because it has no screen to show what is playing, and everything is completely blind. For the same price, you can get better music players with screens and other features, and Shuffle is unlikely to be your main music player (with its tiny memory and crappy UI), anyway. It is cheap, it is flash-based and it is Apple. If you are just giving a gift, give something better, for the same price.

I have an iPod Classic 1G0 GB, which I use in my car (it has iPod integration) and take with me in my travels. The reason I got such a big one is because I carry whole movies in it, including plenty of short video clips.
