*Essentially this article is saying what we all have been saying collectively about the disgusted strategy of IPL to humiliate Pakistan. *
At the same time the article is totally opposite to what most of the Indian guppies (except Giant) are claiming which I think is shameful considering that most of them are educated and logical people who may not agree with us on certain things which is understandble. But the way they have blindly defended IPL and Modi, it was indeed a eye opener.
Interestingly on another popular Pakistani cricket forum, , majority of the Indian are disgusted by the actions of IPL.
Re: IPL auction: Pakistani players ignored
^ Well, I like pretty much all of it since it talks sense. The author does not feed into conspiracy theories around how the GOI/IPL/BCCI took this step to humiliate Pak :), and offers some possible explanations for how business reasons could have been behind this decision.
I especially like the part that I quoted since I agree with the author that it could have been handled in a better fashion by the franchisees.
Keep in mind that GOI/BCCI & IPL do not always see eye to eye, and the franchisees are independent corporate entities so to suggest a nexus amongst them is plain stupid.

On this forum we will defend Indian position regardless of how ridiculous it is.

I dont think there is an "Indian" position on this. GOI/BCCI/IPL/Franchisees are all independent entities, and they have their own reasons for doing what they do.
Indian members on this forum are able to use their brains and think beyond the conspiracy theories and the "we are the victims" mentality.
Re: IPL auction: Pakistani players ignored
This article in Dawn also puts the responsibility for the decision back on the franchisees…
===========================
DAWN.COM | Sport | PCB chief dismayed by IPL snub
LAHORE: Chairman Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Ijaz Butt has expressed his disappointment over the fate of Pakistani players who did not get any offers at the auction held for the third edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) set to commence in March.
“The PCB has helped out its players by all means to get entry for the auction, but there were no buyers for them and that is disappointing,” Ijaz told reporters soon after the auction for the IPL ended with all the eleven Pakistan players not getting any buyers in Mumbai on Tuesday.
Ijaz said IPL Commissioner Lalit Modi had assured him that Pakistani players would play in the third edition of the IPL.
He said the Federal Sports Minister Ijaz Jakhrani had been asked to speak with his Indian counterpart who had played a very positive role in the past in allowing the Indian High Commission to issue visas to the Pakistani players.
It may be mentioned here that a mistake on the PCB’s part prompted the IPL organisers to close their doors on the Pakistani players. The IPL had set Dec 7 as the last date to confirm the entry of the players. But the PCB could not issue the NOC to the players after getting clearance from the relative authorities.
On Dec 7, Modi had announced that no Pakistani players would feature in the IPL because they failed to send the entries before the deadline.
But the Pakistani players, who were enthusiastic about the participation in the league, raised lot of hue and cry over the issue which compelled the PCB chairman to speak to Modi about their status.
Soon afterwards, a new deadline was set for the Pakistani players which was met well on time as the federal government also issued the NOCs to the players.
In a following development, the Indian government allowed its High Commission in Islamabad to issue visas to the Pakistani players and all of them were quite hopeful about their appearance in the league.
According to experts, the strained political relations between the two countries since the Mumbai attack on Nov 26, 2008 has led to this situation that none of the Indian sponsors are willing to support the Pakistan players.
Re: IPL auction: Pakistani players ignored
this is absoutly disgusting. they should be ashamed of themselves... i was going to watch the matches on youtube but now.... i could care less

Then why come up with lame excuses like it's "business strategy". They did what they were told to do.
They did what they were told to do.
And who told you that ?
Neither the Indian/Pak newspapers nor that blog has raised that as an issue. Everyone is on the same page in that the franchisees took that decision for business reasons.
While the merits of the business strategy can be debated endlessly, there is not evidence (beyond paranoid conspiracies) to say that anyone other than franchisees were involved in the decision.
Re: IPL auction: Pakistani players ignored
Easy for Preity Zinta to act in Veer Zaara. yet not so easy to bid for Pakistani players.
Conspiracy of silence - Kamran Abbasi
Not a single Pakistan cricketer has attracted a bid in the IPL auction. Can this be genuine? Lalit Modi doesn’t see anything strange in it, others haven’t attracted bids either he says. But which other country with Pakistan’s track record in Twenty20 cricket has been blanked?
Let’s examine the facts. The current crop of Pakistan players were among the winners of the 2009 World Twenty20 and finalists in the previous one. Lahore Badshahs won the ICL. Pakistan cricketers featured prominently and influentially in the inaugral IPL tournament, and they are some of the best Twenty20 players in the world. Shahid Afridi, at the very least, is a star attraction.
The facts, Mr Modi, don’t fit with your explanation. Why were Pakistan players put through the charade of entering the auction when they were to be boycotted by the franchises? Undoubtedly, politics are in play and Pakistan’s cricketers are pawns in the South Asian game of battle chess.
Once more, Pakistan cricket is being marginalised with the PCB and the ICC watching impotently. The wall of silence that has greeted Pakistan’s players in the IPL auction isn’t a misfortune. It reeks of conspiracy.

I am sorry to say the franchises have taken a decision not based on cricketing sense but on political grounds which is a shame and has hurt the image of cricket
I say screw IPL
Besides we have more important issues to worry about
ICC T20 WC 2010 - Pakistan victory w’d be the biggest slap on the faces of Lalit, Franchises and Indian Government
World Cup 2011 &
Test Cricket
Re: IPL auction: Pakistani players ignored
^ We have nothing to prove when it comes to T20. Finalist and Winners in consecutive world cups.
Why putting yourself under pressure for 2011?
I am absolutely delighted because it exposes prevelant anti Pakistan mentality rampant in India despite what the Indian posters here say.
You can be absolutely delighted because it is no money out of your pockets.
Re: IPL auction: Pakistani players ignored
Interestingly enough, none of the Pak posters have raised the issue of Pak support (direct or indirect) to terrorists operating against India and how that might have played into the franchisees minds (assuming this was a politically motivated decision). Maybe its easier to play the victim card here....
Anyways, I am out of this thread. You all can believe whatever makes you sleep well at night. :)

On the contrary it is "we will defend regardless how pathetic the situation". No victim mentality here just anger at the pathetic and underhanded way the Indians conspire to play this pathetic drama.

Unlike you for me there are things other than money which matter.

Another pathetic argument, if it was that much of a concern than why allow them in the first instance.
Hey, it is their money and their business. You can complain all you want, but they can spend their money where they want and not spend it where they do not want. It is simple. Their customer does not want to see Pakistani players so they will not pay for Pakisyani players. It is business, pure and simple.
IPL can live very well without Pakistani players, however talented they might be.
While the merits of the business strategy can be debated endlessly, there is not evidence (beyond paranoid conspiracies) to say that anyone other than franchisees were involved in the decision.
PUI, lets assume that it was purely franchises and their decision not to pick any Pakistani player on Jan. 19. I am sure they all knew prior to the Jan. 19th that they are not going to pick them. You think Modi didn't know that franchises are not going to pick any player?
Assuming Modi knew about it and if it was entirely the decision of frnachises than why didn't Modi made any attempts to give franchises any assurance that Pakistani players will participate. Modi is powerful enough to move IPL 2 from India to South Africa in a month and assure players that they all will get South African visas. But on the other hand he cant give assurance to franchises about Pakistani players?
Lets assume that Modi couldn't give that guarantee to the franchises then why didn't he and BCCI tell PCB or the Pakistani players about this situation before the Jan. 19 auction.? Things could have been done to avoid this controversy.

Than why did they include them in the first place. They could have not included them like last year and we were not complaining. It was not business. Pakistan has lived without Indian money regardless of which underground don is financing them and produced teams which whipped Indian asses no end and will continue to do so in future as well. Remember June last year when your team came to England after being in form playing IPL and the cup was a foregone conclusion and yet were back home in no time.
