IPL auction: Pakistani players ignored

re: IPL auction: Pakistani players ignored

^^ I don't really believe that PCB's Butt have enough meat to go for Boycott, he might start begging Indians...

re: IPL auction: Pakistani players ignored

yet another eye opener... its Business and we all should understand this. IPL is not a charity match. People (team owners) are in IPL for making money and picking Pakistani people up is just like displaying and selling made-in-pakistan items in Delhi.

re: IPL auction: Pakistani players ignored

Guys what response we can give?

  • Not let Geo etc to telecast IPL in Pakistan -Arrange T20 tournement at the same time of different city of pakistan -Made commetment to win again t20 world cup

lol

How come this becomes an insult to the country??

Wasn’t he the one who said IPL is not as ‘great’ as Big bash :cb:

The reluctance to take on Pak players is possibly due to the tenuous situation between the 2 countries. Its better for the franchisees to bid for a non-Pak player who has a 100% chance of playing, than a Pak super star who has a 50% chance due to the prevalent sitiuation :)

re: IPL auction: Pakistani players ignored

Don't blow it out of proportion ppl. Cricinfo and some other sources had been predicting for about a month now that Pakistani players will not be selected because franchises are wary of visa problems.

Although the players have been cleared by PCB as well as accepted for auctions by BCCI, there was no indication from the Indian Govt. whether players would be given visas.

If there's anyone to blame here, it's not BCCI or the franchise owners, its the Indian Govt. who could've clarified their position on the matter.

re: IPL auction: Pakistani players ignored

Then why put their names in the auction? They could've easily banned Pak players from IPL. They knew the whole situation before the auction.

A lesson for all Pakistanis, boycott the IPL. I didn't watch it last year and won't be watching it this year.

because, the Govt. didn't say either way, and BCCI didn't have an objection on franchises who might opt for the players. It's just that franchises are mitigating their risk in case they buy a player who won't be granted a visa.

Last year, the Govt. was clear that visas won't be issued, and BCCI subsequently didn't allow Pak players in the auction. This year, the BCCI didn't have any reason not to officially stop the franchises from bidding for the players.

If the situation is not clear than why include them in the franchise anyway. Doesn't make sense.

agreed. :k:

re: IPL auction: Pakistani players ignored

The situation between Pakistan and India have not changed a bit from last year. BCCI/IPL could have asked government for visa clearance beforehand. Why put players/franchises in a pickle?

re: IPL auction: Pakistani players ignored

**I dont know y our cricketers are making fuss about this ?

Its "their" IPL ... they have all the right to select who they want ....
it was our players who were "dying" to play and earn big amount ...... n i can bet they will again put their name for auction next year ...

I think we should either start raising our standards or stop complaining
**

Their names were put in by IPL/BCCI. The government did not provide any clarification on their visas. The franchisees (all of whom are corporates) decided to minimize their risk and exposure to the Pak players since their status has not been confirmed by GOI.

Sohail Tanvir was one of the key players in Raj Royals triumph in IPL 1. They were still banking on Tanvir for IPL 2, but then 26/11 happened and the rest is history.

Franchisees would rather bid on a player that they are certain will play.

So IPL/BCCI, the Indian govt, the franchisees, none of them had discussion before hand? What a brilliant way to handle a tournament. I dont buy this minimising risk theory. I reckon it was blatant anti Pakistani sentiment on part of the franchisees.

You wont convince me and neither will I convince you so lets agree to disagree.

re: IPL auction: Pakistani players ignored

cmon guys.... as I said its business. Dont blow it out of proportion. I am not going to boycott it as I don't follow it anyway :)

btw, here is my prediction, IPL will die in few years anyway. I see top starts from Aus, Eng and SA opting out of it, Top starts of Pakistan want money but they are kicked out of it. Things are not happening for IPL as expected that cricketers will prefer IPL over country teams etc. Its a no brainier that retired stars can not replace charm/attraction of current stars no matter what.

It is not that simple, yes it is their IPL and they have a right to select who they want, but they also should show what is termed as common sense and if they dont wish to include certain players from a certain country than dont include them in the bidding process.

Conspiracy of silence

By Kamran Abbasi

Not a single Pakistan cricketer has attracted a bid in the IPL auction. Can this be genuine? Lalit Modi doesn’t see anything strange in it, others haven’t attracted bids either he says. But which other country with Pakistan’s track record in Twenty20 cricket has been blanked?

Let’s examine the facts. The current crop of Pakistan players were among the winners of the 2009 World Twenty20 and finalists in the previous one. Lahore Badshahs won the ICL. Pakistan cricketers featured prominently and influentially in the inaugral IPL tournament, and they are some of the best Twenty20 players in the world. Shahid Afridi, at the very least, is a star attraction.

The facts, Mr Modi, don’t fit with your explanation. Why were Pakistan players put through the charade of entering the auction when they were to be boycotted by the franchises? Undoubtedly, politics are in play and Pakistan’s cricketers are pawns in the South Asian game of battle chess.

Once more, Pakistan cricket is being marginalised with the PCB and the ICC watching impotently. The wall of silence that has greeted Pakistan’s players in the IPL auction isn’t a misfortune. It reeks of conspiracy.

I think it's time we realised that the Indians don't want to play cricket with us. Let's stop begging them and have nothing to do with them

Afridi stunned/ Pakistani players mistreated: Afridi’s manager

**Visas blamed as Pakistan players miss out on IPL spots **

Shahid Afridi’s manager believes an issue over visas was behind the failure of Pakistan players to win a contract for the 2010 Indian Premier League.

Eleven players won contracts in the draft but all 11 Pakistan players including Mohammad Aamer, Umar Gul, Umar Akmal and Afridi were unsigned.

Afridi’s manager Umran Khan said: "I think the players have been wronged.
“I’d heard that franchises were advised not to bid as Pakistan players would not be issued with visas.”

IPL commissioner Lalit Modi claimed all franchises were free to bid for any of the shortlisted players, but Umran claims bureaucratic concerns were a factor.
“Lalit Modi and the Indian government have a lot to answer for,” he said.

"The way I see it is that, because Afridi and the other Pakistani players would have been employed by an Indian company for the IPL, the Indian government wouldn’t issue a visa.

"Yet, if Shahid was to play for South Australia in the Champions League, they would issue him with a visa, as they did for Yasir Arafat when he played for Sussex in last year’s Champions League.

"The Indian Premier League have been using Afridi’s name and pictures to publicise the tournament and to build up the hype and he was expected to be one of the most popular players amongst the franchises.

“I think Shahid and the other Pakistani players have been wronged and mistreated here.”

Afridi, who scored a match-winning 54 not out as Pakistan beat Sri Lanka by eight wickets to win the World Twenty20 title at Lord’s last June, admitted he was shocked not to be get a contract.

“I’m stunned by the omission,” he said. “I thought I would be picked and am very surprised at the outcome of the auction.”

BBC Sport - Cricket - Visas blamed as Pakistan players miss out on IPL spots

*His manager does have a point. If Yasir Arafat gets a visa last year then why can’t other pakistan player het visa to play in IPL? *

Sub dramay baziyan hain :hehe:

Heard from whom ?

That does not make sense. If IPL has been using Pak players' names to promote the tournament, wouldnt they want the Pak players to play ??
