IPL Auction on Feb 6th for Season 2: 5 Pakistan players out of 111 players

Pietersen leads list of 111 players for auction

The IPL has announced an exhaustive list of 111 overseas players who will be considered for the second auction in Goa on February 6. Not surprisingly, Australians dominate the list (27) while the big difference from last year’s edition is the addition of 19 England players,

Each franchise has a maximum of US$2m to spend on their overseas signings in the auction, which gets underway on February 6, and it is likely that only about 16 players - or two per franchise - will be chosen out of the 111.

Re: IPL Auction on Feb 6th for Season 2: 5 Pakistan players out of 111 players

Bidding for any player (no matter how great) for more than 200,000 USD for 20/20 format game is insane to me.

20/20 is all tukkaybaazi - you can never bank on one player (no matter how great batsman or bowler) to win you 20/20 games on a consistent basis. That is the reason why unheard of Indian domestic players seemed to play as well as big International players in last year's IPL.

And to offer USD 650,000 to Robin Uthappa...

Re: IPL Auction on Feb 6th for Season 2: 5 Pakistan players out of 111 players

England players are getting the payback for "standing up" to the terrorist threat and visiting India after the Mumbai attacks. Bravo.

I am sorry but no player is worth a million $ for a few weeks of tullah baazi

Most good players from other countries are already contracted to IPL. Wasnt England the only major cricket playing country to not be represented in IPL last year ? By default that would mean more England players would be available this time.

bravery always pays back 10 folds.

They made sure of it by sucking upto BCCI.

rising sun get the salute...
setting sun gets the boot.

I dont think they needed to suck up to BCCI. They would have been contracted last year had ECB not played spoilsport.

Re: IPL Auction on Feb 6th for Season 2: 5 Pakistan players out of 111 players

i want to see which teams will buy pakistani players? don't really see anyone going after them with the current situation. infact players should have said NO looking at how indians are towards pak lately.

^ Whose loss will it be ?

there are things money can not buy,
for everything else there is master card!

I agree,....how long is the league? 3-4 weeks?

Re: IPL Auction on Feb 6th for Season 2: 5 Pakistan players out of 111 players

If you think about it, in a Twenty20 game , a batsman gets 4-5 overs on an average per game and a bowler not more than 4 overs.

Even an otherwise good bowler like Ishant Sharma, for example, cannot be expected to do anything outlandish in those 4 overs (per Twenty20 game) on a consistent basis to justify his USD 900,000 tag. And on top of all that - there is HUGE DOSE of LUCK involved in this format.

In these circumstances, I would rather hire some young aggressive domestic players who are eager to exhibit their flair on the world stage than pay millions to somebody like Pietersen who is in it only to make some money on the side and will not make much difference to the outcome anyways.
