Iphone now in 3G

Twice the speed, half the price - The iPhone is now available in 3G

Someone I know bought the 3G Iphone that came out today, its so much faster! Does anyone know if they solved all the problems that the first generation had?I kept one for a few days when it came out last year but it was worthless, as a phone.

Re: Iphone now in 3G

I thought it will be available July 11th. Or may be thats just the new SDK.

By the way, anyone who bought it after 5/27/08 can return it for the new 3G phone.

It’s been a long, leak-filled wait, but Apple finally took the wraps off its 3G iPhone. Thinner edges, full plastic back, flush headphone jack, and the **iPhone 2.0 firmware **-- Apple’s taking a lot of the criticisms to heart from the first time around. Obviously 3G is at the forefront, but they’re also making sure it’s available all over internationally, works with enterprises, runs 3rd party apps… and does it all for cheaper. Apple claims its 3G speeds trounce the competition, with pageloads 36% faster than the N95 and Treo 750 – and of course it completely trounces the old EDGE data. Battery life isn’t getting put out to pasture though, with 300 hours of standby, 8-10 hours of 2G talk, 5 hours of 3G talk, 7 hours of video and 24 hours of audio. GPS is also a go. Apple is using A-GPS, which supplements regular satellite GPS data with info from cellular towers. WiFi data is also worked into the mix, which should give users a pretty solid lock on where the heck they are on this planet. Unfortunately, there’s no front-facing cam, which syncs with what we were hearing, but is still a little disappointing. Apple hopes to launch in 70 countries this year. 8GB is available for $199, 16GB for $299 – and the 16GB comes in white. Both pricepoints require a contract. Apple will be hitting the 22 biggest markets, including the US, on July 11th. More info after the break.

Update: Just bought an iPhone? Listen up: “Customers who purchased a 2.5G iPhone on or after May 27 and want to swap it out for a new iPhone will be able to do so without incurring an additional handset charge for the new device. They will of course need to turn in their 2.5G iPhone.” And for the rest of you, AT&T says there’s no way to buy it without agreeing to a contract. So sorry.

This article was found on Engadget, and can be viewed HERE

  • It’s a teensy bit thicker. 4.5 by 2.4 by 0.48 inches (115.5 by 62.1 by 12.3 mm), and weighs 4.7 ounces (133 grams).
  • Radios galore: Wi-Fi (802.11b/g), UMTS / HSDPA (850, 1900, 2100MHz), GSM / EDGE (850, 900, 1800, 1900MHz), Bluetooth 2.0 + EDR
  • A SIM ejector comes in the box, at last. That would be a paper clip.
  • There’s no dock included, just a USB power adapter and dock connector.
  • On AT&T unlimited iPhone 3G data plans for consumers will be available for $30 a month, on top of voice plans starting at $39.99 a month. Unlimited 3G data for business users will be $45 a month, on top of voice. There’s a minimum two-year agreement, but we’re not positive what that’ll look like for those currently enslaved to an AT&T contract – you could be looking at a solid four years of time if you just took the plunge.
  • Apple’s new MobileMe service will be coming with the iPhone 2.0 software, bringing push email and contacts for all.
  • Apple’s official page is here, and you can watch the new ad here.
  • Available on July 11th in: Australia, Austria, Belgium (French), Belgium (Dutch), Canada (English), Canada (French), Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Mexico, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland (French), Switzerland (German), UK, USA
  • The rest of these are slated to get the phone this year: Argentina, Botswana, Brazil, Cameroon, C. African Republic, Chile, Colombia, Croatia, Czech Republic, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, Egypt, El Salvador, Equatorial Guinea, Estonia, Guatemala, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Greece, Honduras, Hungary, India, Ivory Coast, Jamaica, Jordan, Kenya, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Macau, Madagascar, Mali, Malta, Mauritius, Nicaragua, Niger, Paraguay, Peru, Philippines, Poland, Romania, Senegal, Singapore, Qatar, Slovakia, South Africa, Turkey, Uruguay.
  • On the chatting front, developers will be able to ping a centralized push server with their apps, to keep down battery usage and app overload on phones.
  • No mention has been made of MMS, video recording or built-in iChat. What gives, Apple?
  • Yes, it’s in the FCC.

maybe the highlighted part answers ur question spock

I think you are right, it was a pre-order and it ships either on the 12th or 13th, though for a hefty price there are prolly some testers available on ebay...

I heard the firmware update took care of the voice issues that the very first ones that came out had.

Re: Iphone now in 3G

I have the iPhone. I'm a gadget freak. I didn't like it one bit. I'm kinda stuck with it for now.. the new one's anticipated to be just plain ok. The 1st one was just popular for is interface...
2nd one's out july 11th.

Re: Iphone now in 3G

I will be buying it on July 11th. I hope its worth the wait.

Five reasons to hold off on the iPhone 3G

Yes, I’m one of those guys who wait in line the day a shiny new gadget goes on sale, and the iPhone 3G is one of the shiniest gadgets of all. But while I’ll be out there waiting in the wee hours of July 11 (it’s my job, after all), the rest of you should think twice before losing sleep on launch day. Here’s why.**1.

Shortages are unlikely**
Remember last year, when we all got in line early for the iPhone because we were afraid it would sell out? Well, that didn’t quite happen. Yes, individual AT&T stores sold out quickly, but many Apple stores had plenty of iPhones in stock in the days and weeks after the big day. (Indeed, there weren’t any serious iPhone 1.0 shortages until just recently.) Also, word of hundreds of massive overseas shipments bound for Apple (which began arriving as early as March) leads me to believe that there’s a healthy supply of iPhone 3Gs on hand. So if you’re worrying about a Wii-like shortage of the iPhone 3G, well … I wouldn’t.

2. Chaos on Day One
Unlike last year, customers won’t be able to activate their new iPhones over iTunes—instead, clerks will have to activate them in the store, contracts will have to be signed on the spot, and new AT&T subscribers will have to undergo credit checks. It could take a good 10-15 minutes per customer—and that’s if things go smoothly. It’ll be a new process for everyone—especially for Apple Store employees, who aren’t accustomed to processing cell phone contracts—so I’m anticipating (dreading, actually) a train wreck next Friday. Even if you’re dying to lay hands on the iPhone 3G, you might want to wait a week or so until they get the kinks worked out.

3. 32GB iPhone 3G on the horizon
I was keenly disappointed when Steve Jobs didn’t unveil a 32GB iPhone last month—indeed, all we got were 8GB and 16GB versions, and I’d personally like an iPhone that I could cram with as much music and video as I can stand. Here’s the thing, though—a 32GB iPhone 3G is probably coming within the next six months, if not sooner (well, that’s my guess). If I wasn’t buying the 16GB iPhone 3G for Yahoo! Tech, I’d probably sit tight and wait for the 32GB version to arrive.

4. Best new iPhone features are coming to the original iPhone
Yes, the iPhone 3G will be getting GPS and, of course, 3G—but for now, you can’t download music tracks over AT&T’s 3G network or access AT&T’s streaming video service. For me, the most exciting thing about the new iPhone is the upcoming App Store[(http://tech.yahoo.com/blogs/patterson/23805/hands-on-with-the-htc-touch-diamond/)**
I’ve seen the future of cell phones, folks, and it’s called the HTC Touch Diamond. With its gorgeous VGA screen, beautiful touch-screen interface, and compact, light-weight shell, the Diamond is the first phone to make me green-eyed with envy since … well, since the original iPhone. The Diamond is set to arrive in the U.S. in September, and spy shots of a Sprint-branded Touch Diamond are already circulating on the web[. You might want to give the Diamond a serious look before committing to a new two-year iPhone contract.

So, there you have it! Put a padlock on that pocket and wait out the crazy crowd. :smack2:](“Gizmodo | The Future Is Here”)

T-Mobile is gearing up to offer a 3G iPhone in Germany for only 1 euro, provided users sign up for its monthly 69-euro service plan, according to a Reuters report on Monday.
That translates into an iPhone purchase of roughly $1.55, and a monthly service plan of $107.

I’ll take the phone, let me choose my own plan :@:
Any German guppies on here?

i am okay with my now 'old' iphone.

i was in the mall today and saw a huge line of apple geeks in front of the apple store!!! i felt like taking my iphone out and shouting 'it sux...its not worth the wait' but did no have the guts to do it :(

i think iphone would probably lose its appeal now: $400->$200

Re: Iphone now in 3G

so ... any idea if this new iPhone 3G will work in Pakistan? Most network carriers in Pakistan operate on 900/1800 MHz GSM networks. Also, are these locked?

really? really? It was sold out at 3 places i went to! so retarded. Next delivery is not until Thursday  grrrrrr!

HTC Diamond is soooo nice but i bet Canada won’t get it until the Olympics

Re: Iphone now in 3G

From what I have heard, iPhone 3G is worth all the hype. 3G speeds and App store (btw, you get App store on old iPhone too, with software upgrade) make it a great phone with so many possibilities

There were initial installation hiccups, with activation and iTunes website meltdown. But I just never understand this craze to get something on the first day, anyway. Plan to replace my wife's iPhone with this after the initial rush has calmed down.
