Not sure if im posting this thread in the right section…anways I’m planning to visit Pakistan soon and planning to take my iPhone 3G along with me. Can someone please let me know what phone carrier can I use to work with my iPhone? Thanx :slight_smile:

I wont suggest you to take iphone with you. In my last visit I'd seen people using iphone in pakistan but its merely for office emails. They werent accessing any internet from the phone. So I think you wont be able to use the phone as you use it here.

Especially if you are going to Karachi, dont take iphone at all

Ask this to your service provider, if they are providing international roaming in Pakistan.

if you don’t wanna use your carrier then you have to unlock your iphone to use it locally on local providers.

i used Iphone 2 years ago in Pakistan on Warid Telecom, it was excellent, But only edge was working i don’t know if they have 3G by now or not.

In Karachi Bhattakhors and Mobile Khors will snatch away your telephone.. what is this I-phone? Does it mean International phone? do you always carry with yourself?

Heheh no i wont be taking my iphone with me when im out shopping and etc. Mine is unlocked so i was looking for a local service which gives access to internet everywhere in Pakistan.

every mobile carrier gives access to internet in Pakistan .. u just have to activate GPRS on ur number n then configure ur mobile wid GPRS setting ..... (mostly its all done with one call to service center)

When I took my iPhone to Karachi my cousin was like:

"Idhar aap is ko sirf ghar main hi use kar sakte ho. Bahar lai kar jaane ki ghaltni naa karna."

I followed that advise. :)

Umer Bhai isn't that bit harsh? I use iphone all over punjab (fsd,lhd,rwp,isb,gjr) for weeks..

and my younger brother is also using the first generation from more then a year. Never got any problem with service or theft.

As i am not karachite .. so i don't know whats the scale of mobile snatching, but in the punjab its normal, and not a big problem.

People also have to understand in the cities which have population over 10 million, its very much normal of 500-1000 snatch a day.

A friend of mine is coming from the US and I want to ask her to bring an iPhone 3G from there. I wanted to know if it is possible to get it from there without an AT&T contract.

Of course you can get it without a contract but you pay extra for that. That does not mean an iphone without a contract is unlocked. It is locked, that is, can be only used on the AT&T network until you get it unlocked and also "jailbroken" for better usability.

I thought AT&T only gives them out without contract when a new iPhone is about to come. Anyways, without contract it's like $600 and will still need to be jailbroken, like said before.

iphone will work there for sure. use wifi when possible. I have iPhone in Canada without the data plans and use the Wifi when needed.

kijiji/craigslist has these phones selling for cheap
