no i did not bought it by myself i got it as a gift , i have heard from some mobile sellers that their is factory unlock or can be unlocked through gevey sim i got that sim also but still couldnot solve my problem , is factory unlock will be heplful?

I think it will work just fine… in fact Pakistan has one of the most advanced mobile infrastructures in the world with one of the earliest 4G WiMax implementations in the world… more coverage and inexpensive pricing then many other developed countries. It’s the one thing we’re pretty good in.

Indeed, they are modern but most cellular carrier are still on 2g. What I heard recently, PTA is planning to issue 3g license and 2012 may be the year when consumer can enjoy 3g speed.

^ aah thanks for the info STA - last I heard, Pak was well positioned for a full 3G and even 4G implementation. This was a couple of years ago and I used to tout about this in my classes…

3G or in engineering terms UMTS ( UNIVERSAL MOBILE TELECOMMUNICATION SYSTEM) was launched in Pakistan back in 2009 by telenor, now almost all the service provider offer the 3g communication.

sorry but you are again wrong back in 2005 warid launched the 2.5g system including the packet switching system ( in Engineering term know as GPRS), which was later shifted from (GSM) to (EDGE) to obtain higher speed.

You certainly do not know jack about telecom if you think you have 3G in Pakistan. None of the operators in Pakistan are willing to buy the license which PTA is offering at a very expensive price.
And as of iPhone well it doesnt matter if Pakistan has 2g/3g its more of a SHASHKA and symbol status then it is about the utilitarian approach of buying iPhone or for that matter any of the currently available nifty gadgets …if your iPhone has made through the “jail break” you can use magic sim jacket that can be ordered from China at the price of 700 PKR to completely unlock the iPhone and use it for any operator world-wide.

whoever said 2.5 G was some standard?
currently Pakistan Telcos operate on Edge which is the highest speed they can operate. Its ACTUALLY a mixture of Edge/GPRS. No company has an EDGE network throughout Pakistan. Telenor has the most EDGE coverage whereas Mobilink comes distant second.

Thats right. But this WiMax implementation is not available for mobile users yet. It is not going to be available until PTA decides to vet it. So far they are offering WiMax to corporate customers as internet and not for mobile network. Idiot politics…

^ thanks for the clarification Saby - that’s what was confusing me because all the research reports I’ve been reading say that some cities already have WiMax blankets implemented. It’s a pity that despite the presence of the infrastructure, the services aren’t widely available yet.
