Like all fans, I’ve been keeping a list of milestones Inzimam could cross during the ongoing Lahore Test. Here they are, in chronological order:
Score 20 runs to cross Miandad and become Pakistan’s highest Test Scorer.
Score 37 runs (or 87 runs in 2 innings) to maintain 50.00 Test average.
Score a 100, his first century against South Africa, and thus join the elite club of batsmen who have scored a 100 against EVERY Test playing country.
Score 187 runs in the Test to complete 9,000 Test runs.
As the match progressed, I was hoping that each of these milestones would fall one by one. In reality now, even the first hurdle appears difficult to cross. The 6 runs still needed to cross Miandad may be the toughest runs in Inzi’s career.
But being an optimist and a firm believer in fairy-tale endings, I’m still hoping that Inzi would score 173 in the second innings to achieve all these milestones in one giant leap, as well as earn Pakistan an unlikely victory and further improve his match winning ceturies to total centuries ratio.
I would be glad to be proved wrong but as I have stated in another thread Inzi would most likely regret his decision after the completion of the ongoing Lahore test esp. if his national record comes at the cost of losing his test average of 50. If the board had let him play for another series or two it would have been a different matter but risking his test average of 50.07 for a mere 20 runs just was n't worth it IMO.
Its not over, yet. We have Younis, Yousuf and Inzi in the line up. Everyone knows what happens when these three gets it going. So, hope is not at all lost. Winning may be far cry, let's hope they make the effort to draw the thing.

I don't think Inzi will regret this, because life is not only about records, life is about respect and I think he received a very good farewell and respect from everyone including PCB and SA. Records are there to be broken, I am glad he is leaving in a respectable way unlike Waqar,
Wasim, Razzaq.

Good on Inzi and God bless him
Did'nt he play this one, just for breaking a record?
