Good luck Inzi....
Re: Inzimam-ul-Haq chances surpassing Javed Miandad
In my mind, when I rate all our greats, I see it the following way
Test
ODI
so lets take average
J miandad: 2 + 1 = 3
inzimam: 4 + 2 = 6
zaheer 5 + 4 = 9
So I guess overall these three were our best batsmen ever. If I had to pick #4, I will pick Imran Khan (as a batsman).
Re: Inzimam-ul-Haq chances surpassing Javed Miandad
Inzamam for me is the greatest Pakistani batsman ever. He has won you so many matches.
Re: Inzimam-ul-Haq chances surpassing Javed Miandad
Inzi is gr8, but Miandad is a legend.

Your reasoning for each batsman isn't bad but c'mon Mohammad Yousuf is NOT better than Javed Miandad. Miandad has saved and won more matches for Pakistan than Yousuf has to date. He had an aura (although not quite so frightening a presence as Viv Richards) and presence at the crease that neither Inzi nor Yousuf has. He's rated by many as the second-best batsman of his era after Viv Richards - period. Jeff thomson in his autobiography rates Miandad as second best after Viv. Infact Richards and Miandad were the only two batsmen of their era who averaged 50+ in tests and 40+ in ODIs. While both Gavaskar and Border averaged 50+ in tests, their one day averages (in the early-mid 30s) were pretty modest. By contrast both Greenidge and Haynes averaged 40+ in ODIs but their test record (averages in the mid-40s) falls a bit short.
Miandad was very good at rotating the strike. Because he played with such soft hands, he could nudge the ball into gaps all day but he could also cut loose when the situation begged him to. I once saw him advance from 68 to a hundred in the final 4 or 5 overs of a one-day game against India. By the time Zaheer had moved from 99 to 105*, Miandad had advanced from 68 to 117*! Kapil bore the brunt of his onslaught.
Inzi and Yousuf are two very good batsmen but historians and cricket pundits I reckon will always put SRT, Lara and Ponting above those two.
One other point. Miandad mastered the basics of cricket, was an excellent fielder and runner between the wickets. Both Inzi and Yousuf fall short in that department too.

You are right and agree with the above.
What about Inzi's match innings which people often talk about wouldn't this make a difference in the eyes of neutrals, cricket pundits and historians when comparing against the true legends such as Lara, Tendulkar, Ponting and many others before him.
Maybe the likes of Wisden and those who hold / keep cricket statistics should include another column 'Match Winning Innings' against a cricketer profile to go with 100, 50, etc...........
Re: Inzimam-ul-Haq chances surpassing Javed Miandad
now coming back to the topic of the thread ... its too soon to say wether inzi will play another test series or not after WC .. i think it all depends upon Pak's performance in WC as the next test series is far away .. i think inzi shud keep on playing tests and try to become first pakistani to score 10k inshallah.
Re: Inzimam-ul-Haq chances surpassing Javed Miandad
I think Inzi will not quit test cricket after the WC. He will want to get those 20 runs that he needs to surpass Miandad. Pakistan’s first test series after the WC is not until Dec. 2007 when India arrive in Pakistan for a three test series

^ i think there are talks of SA touring Pak in September.
Re: Inzimam-ul-Haq chances surpassing Javed Miandad
Javed is a legend from the old gold era. When Cricket was not as glamarous as today.
Where as Inzimam and others are the players of the modern day cricket era. Where ODI single innings totals many time exceed a Test match innings totals.
The players of the modern era stand in a different class all together!
Like it has been said in many other thread like this one in the past:
" it does not make sense to compare batsmen of different era"
The strongest reason for the above is that cricket has changed dramatically!
Re: Inzimam-ul-Haq chances surpassing Javed Miandad
I would pick Miandad ahead of many and most when it comes to test or ODI. He was probably the best batsman I have seen who could adjust to any type of cricket. However because of Yousuf’s amazing run of runs, I will have to put him ahead of Miandad, Richards, Border or even Gavasker, in pure test cricket terms. 1700 runs in one year is almost unbelievable performance. Having said that my fav batsman of all times was/is J Miandad.
Re: Inzimam-ul-Haq chances surpassing Javed Miandad
Yes and Saleem Jaffer was better bowler than Garner, McGrath, Imran, Marshal and Hadlee.
Gimme a break... !!!
Re: Inzimam-ul-Haq chances surpassing Javed Miandad
This is the game I was talking about. Miandad 119* off just 77 balls. Kapil went for 73 in 7 overs. India though won the game.

Re: Inzimam-ul-Haq chances surpassing Javed Miandad
Comparison is in-just if you are comparing some one from old and current era; those stats are merely a reference and nothing more, like it has been said many times before that both are great batsmen of their time.
Comparion(s) should only be done from current team / players; Dravid, Tendulkar, Yousef, Inzi, Jaysuria, Attapatu, Ponting, Hayden, Fleming....etc
