Re: Inzimam might not be selected for TEST squad in future
^ Yes we heard all that hype before, the selectors did promise to look to the future right after 2003 WC debacle but look where has all that great preparation left us? Where are we now (in the pits) and where is Australia currently (seem to get better and better with each passing world cup with no signs of letting up)? Building teams for the future does not necessarily mean one should resort to over-emotional knee-jerk reactions. A change just for the sake of change is never right in any circumstances.
I am going to quote Faisal bhai's message (8) here
If Inzi plays a couple of test series later this year, how does that hamper the ability of anyone to prepare a youngster for a world cup (a one-day tournament) that is still 4 years away?
I agree we should groom youngsters to take over from aging seniors. But if a player still has a lot to offer to the national team you don't kick him out just because he may not last 4 more years. It's insane to say the least on two counts:
It's not like we have able cricketers (like Australia had Clarke to replace Mark Waugh and Hussey to replace Damien Martyn) just waiting in the wings and Inzi is holding them back
How does letting Inzi play test cricket for another 8-12 months hamper our future one-day or even test preparation? It's not like we are challenging the Aussies for the top spot in test cricket. The gulf between them and us is broader than Hayden's bat
Re: Inzimam might not be selected for TEST squad in future
This is probably what the selectors are thinking :
1 - Inzamam's performances even in tests during the last 12-16 months hasnt been earth shattering.
2 - Inzamam is known to have major fitness problems - ie - he does not do the same drills as the rest of the players - instead choosing to watch rather than participate. So much for a Senior player showing the way.
3 - As a recent ex-captain, who remained very influential and has his own groupings within the team, his inclusion will do little for team morale as the new Captain attempts to stamp his authority on the rebuilding process.
Are there players who can step in and replace Inzy right away? Nope. But there are players who ae young, talented and are waiting for a chance to show what they can do - shouldnt those players get to finally begin their international career at the expense of a man who is no longer the same player he once was, has major back and fitness problems, and is bound to be either intentionally or even unintentionally a disruptive influence on a new team and Captain.
Look at Jayasuria...he's no spring chicken either yet he does the same drills and fitness exercises as the younger players in the team....what does it tell the young players about discipline, emphasis on fitness levels and equality for all, when they`re all out sweating in the sun doing fitness drills and Inzy is sitting with his legs up in the pavillion ?
I think keeping all that in mind...the selectors are entitled to pinpoint a young player who can take Inzamams spot and allow him to begin his career - instead of letting Inzamam play for all the wrong reasons.
Re: Inzimam might not be selected for TEST squad in future
This is pathetic! Who will they replace him with? Faisal Iqbal? The only reason to drop a player should be if there's a better replacement available. No other domestic batsman is even worthy of licking Inzi's boots.
Re: Inzimam might not be selected for TEST squad in future
Faisel,
Give it up already, this fixation with Inzi is not healthy for Pak cricket or this forum.
Brian Lara has exited gracefully and will now coach SCHOOL going youngsters, no bright lights, no hanging around even though West Indies needs him desperately. Great players come with high standards of professionalism, love of the game, self-restraint, pride and lead by example even in times of adversity or when they are leaving the stage.
Inzi may have a few more years of cricket, but its time to go now, let the light shine on someone else.
cp,
chaar saal hogaye and nobody showed up. Not even GS fav. Younis Khan, it's the lousy mulaas named Yousuf and inzy that help us win. 92* in 2nd test vs SA and Yousuf during 2006.
