KARACHI, Oct 31: Inzamamul Haq, the Pakistan captain, has urged philanthropists to come forward and provide financial aid to Pakistan hockey goal-keeper Mohammad Qasim, who requires third surgery on his ruptured lungs.
Inzamam told reporters on Sunday that the Pakistan cricket team had made a donation of Rs200,000 to the ailing Qasim, who was hit in the chest during the national camp in Lahore last year by a rasping shot from full-back Ali Raza.
Since then Qasim, a member of the Sydney Olympic squad four years ago, has undergone two unsuccessful operations. But now doctors have advised him to have another surgery abroad to improve his prospects of playing hockey again.
“I take this opportunity to make an appeal to those people who are in position to help a national hockey star who needs financial assistance,” Inzamam said. “There are some good people in our society who can help Qasim to overcome his suffering.”

PS: I wonder how come Pakistan Hockey Association isn’t taking the burden of his surgery?
only 2 lakh by paki cricket board. Don't the players earn more than that playing just ONE ODI. Come on, Every player in cricket team should donate their one match fee to help out mohammed qasim.
Its sad that a hockey Olympian needs donations to get operations. These people dedicate their lives to play for Pakistan and put their heart and soul in it. I hope someone brings this in the attention of Pakistani government and he gets the due treatment that he needs.
May Allah help him in his future surgery.

well said...only 2 lakh by PCB......i know it is not PCB' s responsibility but come on....damn board made millions of dollars in last year...and remember it is only 2 lakh "paki" rupees....equal to 3000 usa dollars.....board and paki cricket team can do more than that.....

At least they are donating something for the cause. And many other rich people in Pakistan who could easily afford to pay for the whole surgery will keep whining about "only 2 lakh ruppees from PCB" without giving a penny themselves.
I don't think it's PCB that is giving out this money. It is only Pakistan players on their own who are donating this money. And I don't think that players make millions.
