I am not trying to compare the two, an elephant vs mouse, no pun on their physical attributes rather a comparison of their contributions.
In Tests Younis has performed in some matches and saved the game for us. But ODIs is where he severely lacks. If Younis really wants to “replace” Inzi then simply being an agile/hyperactive-captain won’t cut it. He really needs to bring up his game by several miles (not just steps). His own performance in ODIs has been really bad, actually I don’t think he deserves to be in ODIs at all But now he is being touted as the next best thing (esp for post-WC’07) he really needs to step on the gas (not for exit, but for performance on the road).
His ODI average is 31.6, I don’t really mean to compare the “stats”, but out of 142 matches, how many times has he “performed”… yeah thank you for that wonderful century against Hong Kong
I am sure Younis will play with more caution once he has the responsibility for the whole team as a captain. Inzi used to be easy going batsman too until he became the captain. He has matured tremendously and has become a father figure for the team.
Younis was playing fine today too. He did not want to get bogged down and lost his wicket after scoring 24 crucial runs and taking the load off of Inzi during that phase.
Younis is a attacking and a positive player. Very good qualities in a leader. My only concern is the way he handled captaincy issue before the champions triphy where he went public with his resignation.
^ but Inzi had played many many 'match saving', 'match winning' innings before he was made the captain, however its almost entirely opposite for Younis Khan.
Why are we comparing the two? Is Younis becoming the captain while Inzi is in the team? No! The basis of your thread is invalid. I should not have replied to a post that starts with a rolling laughter.
The reason is that everyone is ‘backing’ Younis as next captain for the reasons like ‘active’, ‘agile’, ‘communicating in field’ etc and Inzi is criticised for such, but we forget the contribution of these players in their own specialty i.e. batting. Younis, IMO has not been an ODI player.
May be you should not have replied in this thread, perhaps “best player, bowler threads” would be better candidates for your contribution
I agree with you 100%. I a big mouth on the field or hyperactive is not the only thing you need to be a good captain. Amongst all you need the capability to lead from the front by example. So for bowlers it is wickets and for batsmen it is match winning innings. This is how you win respect from team mates as well. Beside having a clever mind and a pleasant demeanor I mean.
Another thing we recently saw was the lack of maturity shown by Younis off the field in his little act before the ICCT.
He is in line for captaincy and will get it ..he needs to learn quick and fast.

Good points and agree.
Also, how well he handles the superstars off the field will indicate how strong a captain he is. If he is not able to handle players off the field that may affect him when dealing with them on the field.
Every player has their own way of making contributions, similarly they will have their drawbacks. Leading Pakistan in Pakistan or flat wickets against weaker opponents cannot be regarded as the right method of determining captiancy skills. Yunus is the right man for captiancy post Inzimam, putting spotlight on him even b4 he has taken the reigns seems premature and basically intended to glorify one and denigrate the other.
Lets wait and see what happens in South Africa.
I agree that every player makes contributions, read Antumul Alona's post. As a batsman you have to score runs, when you are batsman+captain you have to lead from the front and score 'additional' runs, sometimes you may not but you do put the efforts.
We are on way to make him the captain, he has been 'VC' of the team for sometime. Did you see increase in his performance in batting (referring to ODIs here)? To me, he is as mediocre as he was before, yeah he scored another century against England in England :Salute: (don't ask me who the bowlers were).
When we evaluate players, we look at their performances in past, Younis Khan doesn't provide a glamorous past. When we nominate someone for captaincy, we need to scrutinise deeper. Does he possess the capability to hold together the chir@ndis of the team? For that he will need to lead from the front, Inzamam did that and got respect from the players. Believe me, if Inzamam had not performed, the highprofile players would have mauled him. Who is Younis?

Captiancy is not just about performance granted it is a great asset, leadership skills and to be accepted are also important which Yunus has demonstrated in his role as deputy and whenever given the chance to lead.
Inzi will retire one day or be carried on the stretcher, then Pakistan will require new leadership and Yunus Khan is being groomed for that exact purpose. More importantly, there is no other potential candidate and thank god for that.
