Inzi to ditch ICL, join IPL alongwith Yousuf, Akhtar, Younis and Malik for $1 million

PCB recommends six players for IPL

By Our Sports Reporter
LAHORE, Oct 11: After Mohammad Yousuf retracted his decision to join the Indian Cricket League (ICL), former Pakistan skipper Inzamam-ul-Haq followed suit as the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has recommended both alongwith four other Pakistani players for the Indian Premier League (IPL), starting from next year.

PCB Chief Operating Officer, (COO) Shafqat Naghmi told reporters on Thursday that like Yousuf, Inzamam would also not be playing for the ICL which had not been recognised, neither by the ICC nor by other cricket boards. Instead the duo alongwith Shoaib Akhtar, Younis Khan, Shahid Afridi and Shoaib Malik would be the part of the IPL, recognised by all the boards.

Yousuf, Inzamam, Imran Farhat and Abdul Razzaq are the four Pakistani players, who had signed with the ICL. After Yousuf and Inzamam, opted out, only Imran and Razzaq were left in the contract of the ICL. Imran is likely to leave for India on Nov 1.

Though, Naghmi avoided to disclose the financial packages of the six Pakistani players, there are reports Shoaib Akhtar, Inzamam and Yousuf would be getting USD one million, each.

Yousuf has been served notice by the ICL for announcing his withdrawal from the league.

A legal battle is likely to ensue over the issue.

ICL is surely doomed now. IPL’s packages are somewhat on par with ICL, with the additional benefit of being the “recognized” league.

why doesnt pakistan also create some teams and join the indian leage

many teams from canada play in US leagues

it will promote cross country harmony

karachi, lahore and islamabad can each have a team join the Indian league

Re: Inzi to ditch ICL, join IPL alongwith Yousuf, Akhtar, Younis and Malik for $1 mil

Not a bad idea, but there has to be the political will on the Indian side.

Re: Inzi to ditch ICL, join IPL alongwith Yousuf, Akhtar, Younis and Malik for $1 mil

Why doesn't PCB create a league of its own (with 180 million people, we can sustain a league) and have some interplay with the Indian league? That way the harmony stuff can be achieved while still keeping separate leagues.

After following major leagues in USA, I am intrigued by the idea of players keep switching teams, with no nationalistic obedience. What fun will it be to watch Shoaib Akhtar of 'Bangalore Jets' bowling to Sachin Tendulkar of 'Melbourne Mustangs'.

You raise an interesting point.

As a first gen immigrant to the US, I have often wondered what makes Americans so passionate and emotionally attached to their local teams when the players who represent their teams do so for purely professional reasons. I mean a guy playing for Oakland Raiders today could be playing for Tampa Bay Bucaneers tomorrow…

But then again, the same is true for Soccer leagues around the world, yet the fans are crazy about their local clubs.
