There hardly been any great captains of Pakistan Imran, Javed, Wasim and others may come in mind. Since Wasim, there has not been anyone who really knows how to be a captain. LM, how would you rate Waqar, who literally took a legendary team to world cup? Who basically had those players fit for over 4 years and blew it miserably. Answer this, than we can have a conversation.
I tell you, after the WC, Younis will be the captain with shoaib malik as his deputy. Pakistan was never consistent and will never be unless and until the management ( that includes selection committee , captain and coach ) are on the same page and make sensible decision.
I have no clue why they picked danish for the WC. he has played only 16 ODI's before. and we have been planning for the WC for the last 2 years. if thats so why he was not tried on more often before ?
I dont know why we have a Pakistan A . I thought the purpose of having a A team is to get players into national team whenever there is an injury or a replacement is needed. But we dot follow the procedure. the guy who score 2 hundreds in first class game is all set to take over the A team players.
Now playing against ireland and Zimbabwe , pakistan should beat them like srilanka and australia did against bermuda and scotland. we should be flat out bruttle aginst them and show some authority.
Once he retires, we will miss his batting but no one will really miss his brilliance in captaincy. What we will miss is that after Inzi the team will again fall into petty politics and dramabaazi by the captains and other senior players.
Yes, you are quite rite. Example of which very well displayed in Champions's Trophy last year.
In all honesty Malik has proved his worth in ODI's time and again and actually has done for a quite a while. While I am big fan of Younis Khan I dont think Younis has really done a lot in ODI's. His batting form in tests have been so amazing that people started appreciating his talent. While I do feel Younis was treated unfairly by sending him down to #6 to bat most of his career when he didnt have much of a choice but to hit out but the whole planning of the team combination is out of whack.
Younis was given the #3 position when Malik was perofming brilliantly at #3. Heck at one point he was the best #3 in the world, there was a phase when he was averaging more then Ponting was at the position. Yet Malik was moved down the order to give the position to Younis. While Younis should have batted higher up then #6 that he was sent on what the hell did Malik do wrong ? He is continuing to pile runs down the order as well but now he keeps running out of partners. The team planning is simply mind blowing. You reward a good performer by unsettling his position !!!!
While Younis has been the deputy for a while he needs to start showing some urgency on the field. Start taking upon himself to get the team moving. Start taking initiatives cause Inzi aint gonna be doing any of that.
To hell with harmony within the team, give the team to Younis and he will create his own little "harmony" where Mushy probably wont be preferred over Waqar to help our fast bowlers. That is another big thing with Inzi, while he has a cricketing brain of a child he still insists on keeping people he likes with the team. While it is very noble to try and be good muslims but there should the team selection and the coaches/assistant coaches selection should not on those basis. So Waqar doesnt have a beard so he is out, Mushy has one so bring him back ? Rana now has one so keep playing him even it costs us the cup ? What the hell kinda harmony is that Inzi has created ? All he has done is surrounded himself with people he likes and who like him ofcourse there will be harony now.

Very true. Waqar was a horrible captain. If you remember there were quite a few rumors before the 2003 world cup that the captain would be changed and Wasim would be handed the captaincy. While many at that time suggested changing the captaincy at that stage was too late and the wouldnt gel with a new captain so soon and I guess the board saw it that way too. Wasim was a very good captain, he had it in him to emulate Imran Khan and came close on '99. The only difference between him and Imran was that Wasim lived the phrase
"Mainoon note wakha, Mera mood banay"
Ever since the whole match fixing saga and captaincy switch started we have seen anyone and everyone captain the side.
Wasim, Moin, Saeed Anwar, Ramiz, Waqar, Aamir, Rashid. I mean we had half the team full of ex-captain and the other half trying to topple the current one so they can be the next one.
Yet all this does not take away from the fact that we have a problem right now and that problem is Inzi's captaincy. He is bad at it, the sooner he realizes and starts taking help the better for us.
In order to have a solid consistent team, one need veterans and you know World Cup history better than me that Pakistan has more rookies than ever before, may be dating back to first World Cup. Only Inzamam and Yousuf crack the role of veterans, others are just bunch of boys who are basically playing their heart out and have been for four years. You have to give credit where it is due and flak at the same time, it is the harmony in the team that has kept us a contender and we still are after loosing the first game. Let Younis, Yousuf regain their touch and we are back on track. Our bowling, which is nothing when compared to stats, gives 110% every time.
It’s not over for us right now, teams like South Africa, New Zeland, India/ Srilanka and England may be going down as second seed from their groups. Looking at the minnows, I would not be surprise if some of them even do not make it.
I never compared Inzamam's captaincy; he was never up for it. During World Cup' 03 he refused to be a vice-captain and blamed it for his poor form. Who was there to take the team when it was down? Shoaib Malik was new, Akhtar was Akhtar and Younis...do not know. This is Pakistan and from Pakistan's stand point, Inzamam has done his best to keep us as contenders. He has the ability to get the best out of players, Yousuf, Younis, Malik and Asif are examples. They have shined during his captaincy, just like we credit Javed and Imran for Inzamam, Wasim, Waqar and Saeed Anwar revolution.
Just think if we had Asif and Akhtar for England and South Africa tour, and we had them along with Inzamam in ICCCT, would the result have been the same? Probably not, we were directly in semi or second in World Rankings.
I Younis Khan and Shoaib Malik in my opinion are both pretty good readers of the game and should play more active role in the putting things togather. As a matter of fact I believe Malik is a very smart cricketer and should always have a say so whatever happens in the middle. Inzi can take all the glory of being a good captain while keeping these two working in the background for him. They both come acorss as the kinda people who wouldnt mind giving Inzi the glory for a chance to have a real shot at the World Cup.
I agree with the Shoaib Malik part. He is a very smart cricketer and knows how to make inroads in the opposition team. Look, he even pataoed an Indian girl.. He should be the captain..
