Testifying in front of a senate committee instituted to look into Pakistan’s failure in both the Test and one-day international series against India, Shaharyar Khan, the Pakistan Cricket Board chairman said that while Inzamam-ul-Haq was a decent man, he lacked inspirational qualities. Shaharyar, Rameez Raja, the chief executive, and Wasim Bari, the chairman of the selection panel, testified for several hours in front of the committee.

“The Indians played to their true potential while our strong point which was bowling let us down and our team was found to be lacking in unity and national spirit, especially in the Tests,” said Shaharyar, offering his views on the debacle. “We lost narrowly; however we have reviewed our cricketing failures and the PCB advisory council will analyse these further.” Pakistan lost the one-day series 3-2 and the Test series 2-1.

“I do not want to give excuses and as chairman I accept full responsibility,” said Shaharyar. “I admit there were faults.”

When the members asked how the media was able to predict the results of the matches quite accurately, Shaharyar ruled out match-fixing. “The ICC’s Anti Corruption Unit was here during the series and they gave us a clean sheet. There was no evidence of match-fixing,” he said.

Rameez came under fire for continuing to do television commentary despite holding a full-time job at the PCB. “You cannot go on doing commentary and be the chief executive at the same time,” said Muhammed Enver Baig, a Pakistan Peoples Party senator, and pointed to the clause in the PCB constitution which says that the chief executive has to work full time. But, Rameez was quick to counter that. “Cricket is my bread and butter and besides I am not contracted by any company; also I have dropped my commentary assignments a number of times when there is work to be done in the PCB.”

The three office bearers of the PCB were asked to submit their explanations in writing. The senate committee will meet again in Lahore or Karachi to review the submissions of the board.

I don't think that ia a revelation on part of Shaharyar. Everyone knows he is not an inspirational leader. I will even go as far as saying he is not even leader material.

Yes he is not leader material but Shaharyar is ultimately responsible afterall he was part of the discisions. He is merely shifting the blame elsewhere even though he says he tkes full responsibility.

So Inzi is not an inspirational leader.. and Shaharyar is…?

he isnt a leader and thats isnt something that we didnt know to begin with it.. but the big problem is that we dont have any senior player who is a leader.. cuz of PCB way of dealings in the past, there is no one in the team with leadership qualities.. if there is someone with qualities to be a leader, then either he is too young (Taufeeq) or doesnt have a place in the team (Younis Khan, Azhar Mahmood). PCB needs to take some bold steps in order to bring stability and leadership in this team like what South Africa did by making Graem Smith captain.

Yeah baby. Make Asim Kamal captain.

sami can be an option too

I reckon shoaib akhtar, if given the responsibility, might become a banday ka bacha and try and lead by example....
however,, someone has to ask him to either stick with urdu, or get some english classes.

Although I can also see shoaib malik as a future pakistan captain. It sometimes depends,,, if the both players are from the same era, and ones already doing a great job, the other doesnt get a chance.... lets see.

.

.

if u want a captain for Pakistan there r only TWO choices and that would be Younis Khan and Yousuf Youhana

Younis? The guy sits out every few matches i.e. does not have permanent place and is decent for only one form of the game (test)!

stupid PCB and pathetic selectors all i can say.that's y. the guy gives his best while on the field.and pathetic loosers like farhat and so on get the chances in the squad

well Imran Farhat is a different story. I agree PCB is stupid, because they dropped Saeed Anwar, the guy who was best batsman in during World Cup and gets dropped, the guy who score 19 runs in 5 matches is recalled and later becomes captain :smack: Now due to their previous stupidity (i.e. drop Saeed) they do more stupidities…

I say

Recall Rashid Ladif
and make him Captain

This will solve the problem for next 2 years for both captain's spot & WK spot ! Beside being the best keep of Pakistan he was a decent Captain and had big part in re-building the team after World Cup. He dont play politics anyway where he is captain himself :)

Oh !!! Please.!!! :smack:

inzi might not be the best captain in the world but he is not dum either because he listens to woolmer and worked out his differences with shabi.
