Inzamam is a choker

After World Cup '03 Rashid Latif was given a kiddo team-mostly young/inexperienced ones- and they were putting up decent fight. Inzamamul Haq took over charge and the team looks so strong (at least on paper) and performs so much better but only in league games then when it matters most (SF, Final) the team crumbles like a castle of sand. It was same Sri Lankan squad who was whooped in just two days before final of Paktel cup, and in final we played like Kenya, all team gets out before reaching 40 overs.

Captain is found LBW @ 4, vice captain is standing in middle of pitch @ 7, all when top order didn’t do so bad, so can’t blame the top order for putting extra pressure.

Inzamam is greatest batsman in current team, but we all know how bad his captaincy is. He was novice when he started, he improved as a captain, but only until crucial games show up.

I really hope that we don’t see such failures again, but I’m not sure how many times I can convince myself to keep up the hopes of a major win. BTW, Paktel cup wasn’t anything close to “Major”.

How hopeful are you, that under his captaincy we won’t choke when it matters?

Fire your guns at me now

Inzi and 'under pressure'? HAHAHAHA what a farty statement!

He is the epitome of coolness, dude. He is so carefree I sometimes wonder if he realizes what he is supposed to be doing. Choker? Naaa. Get outta here.

Funguy, I'm talking about as a "Captain", not as "Batsman". He is great as batsman, no doubt.

Just a glimpse :D

Asia Cup debacle:
*Inzamam-ul-Haq b Muralitharan 9 27

Video Con collapse:
*Inzamam-ul-Haq c Haddin b Symonds 7 12

ICCCT SemiFinal crumble:
*Inzamam-ul-Haq c Browne b WW Hinds 21 69

Paktel demise:
*Inzamam-ul-Haq lbw b Vaas 4 7

We know how "effective" he has been in use of bowlers, though he has improved a bit, but there is still a huge gap.

I won't call him a choker...I'd call him defensive and a bit too careful to take risks in big matches. Unfortunately, luck hasn't been on his side either.

May be he himself don’t know the ‘Choker’ tag meaning.

Game strategy - What strategy ?
Game rules - what rules ?

Reporter : Inzi despite being a good player, They call you a Choker do you like that ?

Inzimam : Yeah ! 1st thank Allah then God !!! I think the boys did very well and I hope we do again good and our bowlers do good bowl take wickets and a more good Choker , specialy Shoab do a good choker with old ball, all Boys are very good choker and waiting to choker again inshallah

Inzi is ‘dah’ and a gentle giant. he should be on the leash with likes of Imran Khan, who can get the maximum out of his kind when needed. :bash:

yea, he has made some mistakes and he isn't the best of captains but inzi is the best. don't hate

Not sure about the choker part, or whether it is just Inzi or what... but recently our team has developed this very annoying WSMLBM syndrome. And its not just that they lose.. its that the whole team just kinda crumbles over.

ps. WSMLBM = Win Small Matches Lose Big Matches.

Faisal Bhai,

You sure you are not talking about the Indian team, When you talk about the WSMLBM Syndrome.

:mocking:

Inzi a choker?
Come on man that statement is ridiculous. If it were'nt for we would be battling with BANGladesh for the basement of the table.
Contrary to popular belief the biggest games are Pakistan vs India (not championship games against Lanka or WIndies)
Look at Inzi's record in those games, I would suspect he does quite well.

IMO, this is exactly the problem. If this is how our team management believes, then their priorities are seriously screwed up. In any case, in Paktel cup, we beat SL in group match convincingly.. and when the exact situation came up in Final, we just gave up. Blah!

I agree with Faisal. If we believe that winning against India is a big achievement then there is no difference between us and the Bengladeshis in 1999 when they defeated Pakistan (however that happened) and declared that win as their World Cup and a national holiday. Our priorities and ambitions are seriously screwed up, we need to look beyond that well (kunwayn se bahir nikal ke dunya dekho).

bhai, I am talking about him as a "CAPTAIN", read posts above, I do admire him as the best batsmen (in Pakistani camp) and one of the leading batsmen of this era..... only problem is in big games, since captaincy, the team crumbles and so does he.

Re: Inzamam is a choker

:rotfl:

Neither was ICC Champions Trophy, hell every tournament Pak played under Bob-the Modren Techo Coach.

Re: Re: Inzamam is a choker

yeah, a tournament with Zimbabwe and Sri Lanka as its competitor against Pakistan is THE only one next to World Cup :k:

EDIT: Wait, sorry I forgot the Sharjah tournament when Kenya and Zimbabwe are competitors is also a MAJOR tournament, in-tie with Paktel cup for 2nd spot!

Sure sure...losing this tournament is a no-brainer. I wonder what more excuse would you come up in December when a mammoth challenge will be in Australia?

You play to win. Doesn't matter who the opponent is. It's that simple in Sports.

:mocking:

shaalay !! Besht in the world,Besht in the world,:eek:abbay meray ko woh shala world dekhaoo jis mai yeh besht hain, dekhaoo meray ko woh whorld,:frusty2:

Thank you !

I rest my case ,ahemmm, and mouth

okay wait, I think we have same views but saying differently :)

I do agree that we should have won this tournament, no excuses. I'm simply trying to find out if Inzi is choking in "major" games due to captaincy pressures. Rest of the team has crumbled many times in past, with so many games winning, coming close to victory but then lost (against Australia) or lost the crucial ones. Coaching can make you a very good batsman by improving your flaws, bowl better, field better, but looks like it does not help in holding/strengthening your nerves during crucial matches.

A captain, who is a great batsman, can choke due to captaincy pressures, though he SHOULDN'T... remember Tendulkar as captain? Brian Lara's first captaincy?

I doubt that we will be able to achieve much against Australia if we don't improve our holding of nerves in loosing/pressure moments.

Its not Inzi its Bob Woolmer:D. He did this to the South Africans and now he is doing it to the Pakistanis. What can you expect from an "English" Coach?... England team that played 3 World Cup finals and could not win any... and when was the last time the English won a major title....
