Inzamam confident of playing in one-dayers against India
KARACHI (Reuters) - Pakistan captain Inzamam-ul-Haq is confident of playing in the one-day international series against India starting next week, despite pulling out of the third and final test match with a back injury on Sunday.
“It was one of the toughest decisions of my cricket career that I had to take today not to play this test,” Inzamam told Reuters of his decision not to play in the deciding test.
“I waited until this morning but finally I didn’t want to go into this important game and be a liability for my team by breaking down in the middle of the match.”.
Inzamam, who has 25 hundreds in 107 tests, slipped a disc in the drawn second test in Faisalabad last week and batted with a runner to complete his century and did not take the field when India batted.
“I am very disappointed to miss this match which is so vital and important for both teams after the drawn tests in Lahore and Faisalabad. But I could not take a risk with my fitness,” he stated.
Inzamam said he had thought hard about playing the test as there had been improvement in his condition over the last few days.
“I am still facing problems bending and doctors have advised me to take another week’s rest to make a complete recovery. Hopefully I can be available for the first one-dayer in Peshawar,” he stated.
The first of the five-match one-day international series is on February 6.
