Inzamam played as opener 6 times in 91/92 era and his avera was 64.66 !!! After scoring 2 in only one game in WC 92 he was removed from opening. Then he started to open again **5 years later ** which resulted in 6 innings @ average of 21.33.
I don’t remember any specific reason why he was removed from opening, did he give up that slot himself or was he removed?

All his great average in the early part of his career as an opener is against Sri Lanka, which was a fairly maathi team at that point. Not to say that Inzi is not the most talented batsman in our team right now, but making him an opener based on performance against Lankans in early 90's.... err, we can do worse.
This is what I thought during WC 2003 when Inzimam was struggling in middle order and we were strugglign with our openers. Because Wasim promoted him to open during C&U series in australia 1997 when he was out of form and gained some form by coming as an opener.
