Inzamam as Captain

I don’t usually open threads, much less in the cricket forum, but I feel the need here as I believe bichara Inzi has been criticized far too severly in the past. All sorts of people, ranging from crickters, fans and even cricinfos very own Kamran Abassi, have been critical of his mindeset and even ability as a captain.

Just out of the storm of controversies, one-down in the series, missing Umar Gul and now both Shoaibs, he has definately had unenviable luck. Yet, in this second Castle Test, he has shown that he is precisely what his detractors claim he’s not, a captain among captains.

It’s never easy to push the South Africans, particularly in their own backyard, but Inzi has been doing just that for three days now. The first day, his decision to introduce Kaneria early into the attack may be the very factor that began the demise of their innings. On day two, he crafted a beautiful, captains innings, masterfully sheilding Asif, to bolster the lead twofold. And today, he expertly juggled the bowling options to thawrt the South Africans coming back at him with conscientious plans to gain a big lead.

Just because he doesnt shout or scream, or boast any unnecessary expressions, or badmouth or stare down the opposition, doesnt mean he has a NEGATIVE mindset. Everyone likes fighting spirit, but some people just expect it to be on display for it to be there, but really, its the results that show how much you’ve fought and Inzi has good enough stats as captain to have the fighting spirit of a charging bull with the red flying flag in it’s eye.

He is (wrongly) criticized alot, his speed between the wickets, his size, the spectator fight incident, the oval farce and allegations of being a cheat, being negative, docile etc etc. All of it is bull in my opinion. He’s our captain and I reckon he’s one of the best, no, the very best, to ever boot up and take guard infront of the five willows. So lets hear it people!

Re: Inzamam as Captain

I believe alot of the SA 1st innings wickets were masterminded by Younis Khan.. who in my opinion should be the captain. Inzi doesnt need all the added stress.. he is a run machine and thats all that should be expected of him: make runs, lots of em.

Re: Inzamam as Captain

^ YK had his chance, and he wasnt exactly impressive to say the least. I have criticized Inzi's captaincy in the past but no complaints so far for this tour.

Re: Inzamam as Captain

YK was n't impressive but he did not have the services of Inzi, Akhtar and Asif in CT. Any captain would have struggled in the absence of three key players

Re: Inzamam as Captain

One can't really fault Inzi's captaincy during the current series. He shuffled his bowlers intelligently today and led from the front with a masterful unbeaten 92 on day 2.

Re: Inzamam as Captain

Inzi as a batsmen and as a player - one of the best Pakistan has produced. Those who call him dopey and what not should sit down and calculate how many times he has saved Pakistan from disaster. If we had 4 more dopey batsmen like him along with our attack we would be the best team in the world.

Re: Inzamam as Captain

I think Pakistan team is stronger than when Wasim Akram and Waqar Younis were captain. With Inzamam's captaincy, at this stage it's much stronger and Pakistan can face Australia. We got two special bowler and batsman: Muhammad Yusuf and Muhammad Asif.

Re: Inzamam as Captain

but unfortunately one of our special bowlers is a very special case and there seems to be no end to his injuries/controversies

Re: Inzamam as Captain

I know Alhumdullillah that Muhammad Asif can bowler for longer spells and he can play more games too. Not like Shoaib Akhtar (who gets injured every single series).

Re: Inzamam as Captain

Shoaibs story is pitiful..so much talent but...so little discipline....
and as far as INZIMAM
like i always said...
He is Pakistan's best choice as Captain right now...and ofcourse he is a top class match winner!
If a captain comes tomorrow who can lead better, being that YK or someone else...then that day will be the end of Inzimam's captaincy days..right now YK is not at all ready for being the captain we all thought he needs to be and has the talent for. He needs to learn a lot more and mostly in the areas of patience and mental strength.

Re: Inzamam as Captain

No complaints on this tour ... I saw him talking to kaneria and sami multiple times in the second innings and gave them a lot of confidence. But, to be fair, the criticism by some fans and Kamran abbasi are not totally cheap shots at Inzi... they are right for the most part. I have always supported Inzi as captain regardless of that because he brings stability to the team and the team always fights hard under his captaincy... now that is something the so called 'good' captains weren't able to do. The way we were knocked out of WC 2003 should tell us how much the unity of the team matters. Inzi should be given a lot of credit for this especially when there are so many controversies on daily basis in Pak cricket. I agree that under appreciate inzi... It will be so sad to see him go, I hope he gets a good farewell for his outstanding contributions to pak cricket.

Re: Inzamam as Captain

This was Inzi's 30th test as captain

Won 11, lost 10, drawn 9

**My best win as captain - Inzamam **

**Pakistan’s Inzamam-ul-Haq hailed the five-wicket win in the second Test against South Africa in Port Elizabeth as the best of his captaincy career. **
“It is not easy for sub-continent teams to win in South Africa. It is the biggest win for me as captain.”
The win, with a day to spare, levelled the series which will be decided in the third and final Test starting at Newlands in Cape Town on Friday.
Inzamam was named man of the match for his unbeaten 92 in the first innings.
That gave Pakistan a crucial lead of 141 after South Africa were bowled out for 124 on the first day. But he said much of the credit belonged to Younis Khan and Kamran Akmal.
They came together on Monday when Pakistan were a shaky 92-5 in their second innings and took them to the victory target of 191 with an unbeaten partnership of 99.
Younis made 67 not out and Akmal 57 not out. “Definitely we were under pressure but they played very well, especially Younis as the senior partner,” said Inzamam.
He also praised opening bowler Mohammad Asif, playing in his eighth Test, who took 5-76 in 38 overs in the second innings when Pakistan were reduced to three front-line bowlers following an injury to first innings destroyer Shoaib Akhtar.
“He has bowled very well, moving the ball both ways. We are very happy that a new boy has bowled with his control,” said Inzamam.
South African captain Graeme Smith said his team lost the match when they were bowled out cheaply on the first day.
“We played some very good cricket to keep ourselves in the game as long as we did and to give ourselves a chance to win.” The loss ended a streak of three successive wins by South Africa.
