Inzamam as Captain!

Re: Inzamam as Captain!

No Inzi’s captaincy record is not that great - 10 wins to 9 lossses in 28 tests. Miandad, Imran Khan and Wasim Akram have better stats but just look at the captaincy record of Steve Waugh and Ponting. Infact if you combine the stats of Mark Taylor, Steve Waugh and Ricky Ponting, Australia have played 138 tests and won a staggering 90 tests and lost only 25 tests. That confirms their utter dominance over the past 12 years or so.

Inzamam’s reluctance to groom youngsters is all the more surprising when one considers that he himself had been ignored by selectors for 3-4 years despite being the leading batsman in domestic cricket in the late 80s. He got his chance to impress Imran Khan in the nets only after his ‘friend’ Mushtaq Ahmad personally approached Imran. Inzamam has rather annoyingly shown no great interest in introducing promising young pacers like Samiullah Niazi, Jamshed and Anwar Ali to real cricket. The same dull selections have been going on for quite sometime. Infact this was the first time since 1964 that Pakistan played the same team in all three tests of a series. His persistence with Razzaq and Malik in tests and the very ordinary Rao Iftikhar in ODIs boggles the mind.
