Inzamam has got to be among one of the most succesful captains, i dont know the records but, he has won a test series in NZ, against england, india, west indies at home, Pakistan won against south africa at home too but i think he was stand in captain for rashid latif so i dont know if that counts, he drew test series’ in WI and india, but also he may be the only pakistan captain to lose a test series and 2 ondi tournaments against india at home, anyways i think under Inzamam Pakistan have beaten 4 major teams, and the great test will be in SA though!
Re: Inzamam as Captain!
I would like to point out another aspect of his captaincy. he is the worst captain as far as giving chances to youngsters. he is a nightmare for those youngsters who are performing well in the domestic season and who have performed well in U-19 as they will never get a chance as long as he is the captain. iam worried about the time which we may have to face what WI had faced 10-12 years ago when all of a sudden all of their great players were gone within a short period and new talent had not enough time to groom.
Re: Inzamam as Captain!
Inzi rocks naa
Re: Inzamam as Captain!
No Inzi’s captaincy record is not that great - 10 wins to 9 lossses in 28 tests. Miandad, Imran Khan and Wasim Akram have better stats but just look at the captaincy record of Steve Waugh and Ponting. Infact if you combine the stats of Mark Taylor, Steve Waugh and Ricky Ponting, Australia have played 138 tests and won a staggering 90 tests and lost only 25 tests. That confirms their utter dominance over the past 12 years or so.

Inzamam’s reluctance to groom youngsters is all the more surprising when one considers that he himself had been ignored by selectors for 3-4 years despite being the leading batsman in domestic cricket in the late 80s. He got his chance to impress Imran Khan in the nets only after his ‘friend’ Mushtaq Ahmad personally approached Imran. Inzamam has rather annoyingly shown no great interest in introducing promising young pacers like Samiullah Niazi, Jamshed and Anwar Ali to real cricket. The same dull selections have been going on for quite sometime. Infact this was the first time since 1964 that Pakistan played the same team in all three tests of a series. His persistence with Razzaq and Malik in tests and the very ordinary Rao Iftikhar in ODIs boggles the mind.
Re: Inzamam as Captain!
yea he has lost 3-0 in aus and 3-0 in england, but i meant he has beaten all of the major teams, in a test series, which is not bad! except for aus obviously!
Re: Inzamam as Captain!
I thought Wasim, Inzamam didn't play much domestic/class A (?) before showing up at International level?
Re: Inzamam as Captain!
Actually in that 0-3 drubbing by Australia (2004), Inzi led Pakistan in the first test only and missed the remaining two two tests thru injury. Yousuf captained Pakistan in the last two tests...... and technically speaking Pakistan lost the test series against England 0-2 and one could even argue that it would have been 1-2 had Hair not triggered the Oval forfeiture.
Re: Inzamam as Captain!
Even most defensive Captains and Selectors, experiment with youth in ODI matches, but look at Bari moron and Inzi that they even went for Kaneria for ODI, instead of giving chance to someone like Mansoor Amjed as leg spinning alrounder, or giving chance to Yasir Arafat or giving chance to Sami Ullah Niazi. This is pathetic. I am sure Inzi is fearful of the fact that one failure could end his career especially when Yousaf and Younis are shouldering the batting responsibilities and Faisal is knocking on the door.
We all knew, at the start of a career no youngster could be a replacement for Javed Miandad, or Tendulkar or Lara or Inzi, but Faisal got the potential and within few years he could be a reliable batsman. Therefore, Inzi at the age of 37 is scared that one series lost along with bad batting patch, could completely end his career. Thus, he is not thinking of any experimentation in term of giving chance to a youngster.
As far as giving chances to Razzaq is concern, he wants people in team who will unanimously vote for his captaincy. Unfortunately, most of Pakistani greats wait to the point when selectors push them out of the team. Only Imran left at a high note.
Re: Inzamam as Captain!
^ u r quite a mind reader .... can u guess what i think of your conspiracy theory? why hate on your cricket captain so much when u r the ultimate cricketfan? Why not celebrate on the 2-0 win?
At the end of the day, you cheer for the team and you support the team as a true fan, rather than cheeing for only the players you like and rooting for them to be in the team. I can care less if this team plays for 5 years and we keep winning series 2-0 or even 1-0... But with you, you are gonna be bitter if we win, lose or draw. Come on yar.. celebrate for once and quit this Inzi bashing. You missed the point of the thread... we r celebrating Inzi's success as a captain. Please don't spoil it.... ir will be much appreciated. Thanks,

Dear, I am cricket fan, and care less for win or loss, as long as a team play a good game, with a positive mind set and a good entertaining goal in mind
