Today Indian Prime Minister has created a historical opportunity by issuing the following statement:

New Delhi: Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Monday expressed the hope that India and Pakistan would enter into a treaty of peace, security and friendship. “I earnestly hope that relations between our two countries become so friendly and that we generate such an atmosphere of trust between each other that the two nations would be able to agree on a treaty of peace, security and friendship,” he said. Addressing the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry he said: “I dream of a day, while retaining our respective national identities, one can have breakfast in Amritsar, lunch in Lahore and dinner in Kabul. That is how my forefathers lived. That is how I want our grandchildren to live.”
The present generation should be wise enough to make this happen.
I don't think that is possible today even with fastest of trains running around, may be it is ... may be Eid in Amritsar, Baqra Eid in Lahore and become sacrificial yourself in Afghanistan. ok, just kidding.
There has been all this talk of friendliness which seems like forever now but what real progress has been made in this regard? Kashmir is problem close to heart of both countries and none of them will want to let it go esp considering that we have fought wars/cold-wars/Kargils over it. Who is gonna 'compromise' first to begin the series of compromises to settle this all for once?

Indian Prime Minister is willing to break the ice to move forward. The other side should also show a similar mind set. This would eventually open up the possibility of sorting out Kashmir issue too.
Even if Indian Prime Minister would personally want to compromise on Kashmir issue, there are several powerful counter forces which would not allow this to happen. Only a positive frame of mind from Pakistani side would weaken these divisive forces. (Agar Pakistan Hindu-Muslim harmony Mein Madad Karta Hai To Advani Ki Dukaan Nahin Chalegi.) It is the Kashmir issue and tension between India and Pakistan which helps Advani and Bal Thakre to become powerful
Manmohan Singh has given a very clear message. Solve the problems and issues by friendship and not by war and hatred.
