Let me guess, Noori?

I have done this using the music of Junoon and NFAK. NFAK has worked with Peter Gabrial and Eddie Vedder, so hes a good choice. As for the song, I would go for 'Shamaye Payein'. If it were Junoon, I'd go for Lal Meri Patt (Bulleh Shah), as its more reflective of the subcontinent culture. Ofcourse, there are other choices, but mine is based on something different and appealing.

A rough guide to Pakistani Music is a good CD

The guy'd probably say is that you all suck with those wannabe pseudo western stuff. Something like Abida Parveen, Pathaney Khan or NFAK would be more like it, or in the modern music stuff like Hadiqa's folk ballads or even Ahmed Jahanzeb! Now THATS Pakistani!

Sami, EP is a bad choice. They are just head banging wannabes. That angrezi rap in their songs is so artificial.

And yeah, I forgot Abida Perveen in my post.

Depends on the person. I really like Fuzon and Vital Signs, my two favourite bands, I'd have 'em listen to their stuff first. After that, the many other talented folk in no particular order.

well in a way, u are right but i already said in the beginning of the post that if the person wants 2 listen 2 the rock music from pakistan he should hear those above mentioned needless to say that is the real pakistan. this is just a segment of what pakistan has to offer.

how about "E-JANEMANnnn, JANE BAHARAaaa, RASHKAY CHAMANnnn......." ok ok I'll stop. Probably Afreen Afreen or something. Basically something with the classic tabla and sittar stuff, gorray log love that stuff, they find it very relaxing. personally I think ne of Haroon's song would be a good pick, especially Mehbooba, or Piyariya. plz dont put in raheem shah on, i mean the guys is great, magar angrez khoom ko ruladay ga, goray log will be like "kiya roti surat khoom hay".

I went to the strongs concert when they came to America recently and I mentioned it to a guy in college and so he asked me to if he could borrow their CD and ofcourse I said yes...he listened to it and he loved it! His most fav song was Mera bichra yaar....so now if somebody asks me about Pakistani music I would cetainly recommend Strings....their music is really different from everythign else going around in Pak music and its cool too....

Ofcourse there is no question about NFAK...Fuzon would be another choice because they are carrying our classical music along with the western music....

Vital Signs

Ahmed Jahanzeb...if nothign else, his Kaho Ek din for sure

Then Abrar and Jawad, for punjabi

And who can forget Noor Jahan.....!!

I guess that'd be good enuff
