Once in my university they were having some fundraising dinner for our South Asian studies department, and they had some music going on. I passed by and i couldn't move my feet, the music was sooooo beautiful. The music was being carried out by a tabla nawaz accompanied by another person playing the keyboard. It was sooo mesmerizing. I wish i had gone and asked what piece they were playing, it was truly beautiful.
Tabla music is awesome :k: Very hypnotic.
There was some NFAK stuff in the film Natural Born Killers. A lot of the old stuff by Pakistani artists was probably meant to be heard while out of your head. I saw a video of some private show once and I'm pretty sure they were all stoned to their eyeballs.
Led Zeppelin stuff is pretty spaced out, and the song from Pulp fiction when Travolta's driving the car having shot himself up with heroin - that one hit the mark.

Any music can be intoxicating , depends on the person and mood.
Ingrazi music does not have this effect on me at all.
Tabala, harmonium & sitar just have incredible effects.
My husband plays tabla as a hobby & my father in law can do harmonium. When they play together its fun (I would not call that intoxicating though :D )
I have not listened to the filmi musics you all mentioned but will try to find it.
All my collection is ghazals & qawalis mostly.
