Intikhab Alam named new Pakistan coach,10/25/2008 6:21:38 PM

A dull choice if you ask me. Our WC victory in 1992 had very little to do with Inti's technical acumen, coaching or man-management skills. He was there purely as a maalshi and to ensure a smooth supply of chai, biscuits and other refreshments to Immi, Miandad and others...

Waqar was probably approached by the PCB but quite obviously (and rightly) he refused because of the disdainful way PCB VVIPs treated him in the past; notably when Mushy was called up at the eleventh hour at the behest of Inzi to 'assist the bowlers' for the away SA series in 2007 (where seam not spin is the answer; besides we had a mainly seam attack apart from Danish!!) without even consulting Waqar who was the bowling coach then.

Re: Intikhab Alam appointed new coach

kia bakwas choice hai and more than choise once again I have problem the way he has been appointed..whatever happened to "presentations", "vision" and "plans" (basically interview) required for foreigner coach to disclose before hiring?

He is more of a "political" choice and his first statement says it all that he wants to deal with "big" players ..excuse me thats the job of manager ....let him manage the team and you train one !

Re: Intikhab Alam appointed new coach

I don't have words but I am extremely happy with the way things have progressed in the past week. I am speechless but definitely thrilled.

WHO will coach him?:smack:

Re: Intikhab Alam appointed new coach

Wasn't Intikhab coaching a domestic team in India? What did achieve there?

Yes, he coached Punjab in the Ranji trophy (think he was also born in Indian Punjab before partition - remember hearing something like that around the time he was appointed). He had a pretty successful stint with Punjab - a while back, so I dont remember all the details, but recall that he achieved a big turnaround there. The players credited him with the team improvement - supposedly very sharp cricketing brain. Was extremely well-liked too because of his ability to speak in Punjabi.

Know its not the popular view here, but my initial reaction to his appointment as Pak coach was that it was not a bad choice. I guess time will tell.

“Maybe it [the reports of unease] is correct. But I spoke to Malik as an elder. I’m sure whatever issues we have are from small misunderstandings. If they are left then they grow but it is nothing major.”

Communication, he stressed, would be the key. “I feel a lack of communication often is the biggest problem. There should always be open communication between players and the management. As an elder, it is particularly important for me to do so with the younger guys because at this age, they don’t always know about life outside cricket.” (CricInfo)

Why oh why must we go through this “junior” and “senior” level of grey area that only puts mind at unrest? Why is Intikhab Alam referring to himself as an “elder” while speaking with Malik? What happened to what he got hired for, the coach?

When Malik first started his captaincy in the team, the likes of Afridi and Younis referred to him as “little brother” while they were the “big brother”. And now Intikhab adds another title to his name.

Bad choice
with so much happening in pakistan cricket (all bad things)
I cant even name 11 team players - dont know who is who now
gone are the days when you could name the full squad (including the 12th man) in one breath

Pakistan Cricket needs a miracle right now
