How many of you have the hiring experience?
What personal qualities in a candidate would help you choose them over a slightly more technically qualified candidate?

Re: Interviews
When I hire team members my first priority is team chemistry.
You could have the best technical expert in the world, but if he/she doesn't get along with the rest of the team, we have a big problem in the long-term.
So I really try to find out as much as possible about the person, rather than his/her accolades.
Re: Interviews
Things I look for in hiring people are -
1) Adaptability (in my industry of Utilities, things are changing rapidly) by analyzing career progression, variety of examples in their answers, variety of view points.
2) Ambition, I used to be a job hopper and it paid well as well as exposed myself to many facets. To an extent i like people who come in, do their best work and move on so this is my own metric to evaluate in terms of am i hiring some one who will give me couple of best years and move on or several average years and stay forever. I like former.
3) Chemistry, this is hard to explain and probably not according to any HR manaual but I do give my gut feeling more weight than others. Again hard to explain but when you will interview few candidates you will experience that you are connected with some and not with others. From HR perspective it can be a Like Bias which is absolutely a no go area, so there is a challenge there. Again something that should be kept deep in your heart.
