Interviewing

How do I keep myself from getting nervous during interviews?

I get interviews with some of the top firms in my area of interest, but I somehow don’t do well in the interviews because I am too nervous and don’t come across as confident. I have lost many golden opportunities because of it - I have the qualifications (which is why I get the interviews), but I choke up :frowning: Last year, I screwed up my interview for Wharton MBA because of this - I ultimately got into another top program, but I felt horrible. Any advice? :crying:

Kareem, how to NOT get nervous. Hmmm…good question, but the answer is relative and one answer doesn’t fit everyone or all situations.

What you can do is try to be as much in command of your knowledge of these business schools and/or firms, etc. as possible. Anticipate potential questions and try to answer them in your mind as well as possible, in advance of that all-important interview. When you’re actually IN the interview, don’t focus entirely on the interviewer. Break your eye contact and look somewhere else for a split sec before shifting your attention back to the interviewer. This may help put you at ease. Stay focused and confident. Other than that, the ball is entirely in the interviewer’s court. He/she has the capacity to make the interview as comfortable or as difficult as possible.

Look at every opportunity as if it’s your last…

Thanks Moona. I will try. I think part of it is that I am also naturally not good at interviews. I know it is a weakness, but kya karun…we cannot be perfect at everything. :crying:

Kareem, stay strong and best of luck! :k:

Kareem

Scare of Interviews?

I had the same feeling as you mentioned.

Just be yourself and you'll do fine.

Good Luck.

Haan yaar, interviews make me very nervous. Good luck to you too. :k:
