If you wear hijab etc you may be able to get away with it. Just hold your hands together and do a little nod when you greet them. It will be awkward coz no doubt they will extend a hand and then you will have to explain politely why you can't shake hands. Not the best first impression.
You're setting yourself up with a lot of problems over such an insignificant act. Especially now days, if you have been listening to the news you will know that universities in the UK have been told to tighten up in vetting students with extremist views. To them, this would seem pretty extreme.
