Internships in Chicago for this sumer, deadline for application June 30th

ANNOUNCEMENT - 2003 SUMMER INTERNSHIP PROGRAM

Assalamu Alaikum.

REMINDER: The deadline to submit an application for the 2003 Summer Internship Program is NEXT Monday, June 30, 2003.

The Council of Islamic Organizations of Greater Chicago is pleased to
announce the following summer internships for accomplished and
committed junior and senior high school students who desire to broaden their experience and gain valuable skills, while providing significant
assistance to the Chicago-area Muslim community. All internship
opportunities are voluntary, and require an eight-week commitment from
July 7 to August 31, 2003. To be considered, please complete the

applications are due on or before Monday, June 30, 2003.

Media Relations Internship
The Media Relations Internship will allow students to gain valuable
experience in managing media coverage of Muslim-American concerns and events. This year’s internship will focus on preparations for the
upcoming annual ISNA convention, which will be held in Chicago.
Students will be expected to assist with: preparation and distribution of press releases; preparation of a media guide; maintaining the Chicago Media Watch project; and development of a list of media experts.
Interpersonal skills, excellent writing skills, Internet, PC, and word processing skills are desirable.

Website Internship
Students accepted for the Website Internship will gain valuable
experience in website management and development. Students will
research and gather stories about Chicago-area Muslim community events and present them on the Council website. Students will also work on other assignments, in coordination with the Council webmaster. Excellent writing skills, Internet, PC, and word processing skills are desirable. Any HTML or programming skills are a plus.

Interfaith Relations Internship
The Interfaith Relations Internship will offer students an opportunity
to develop interpersonal communication skills through interactions with
people of other faith traditions. Students will participate in and
report on interfaith programs and dialogues coordinated by the
Council’s Interfaith Committee. In addition, students will gain valuable
experience through preparation for the annual interfaith banquet to be
held during the ISNA Convention. Interpersonal, communication, and
word processing skills are desirable.

Council Development Internship
Students selected for the Council Development Internship will gain
valuable skills and experience in office management, database
management, fundraising, and research on issues impacting the
Chicago-area Muslim community. Students will work under the direct
supervision of the Council Director. Communication skills, Internet,
and basic PC skills are desirable.

The Council of Islamic Organizations of Greater Chicago is a federation
of Islamic institutions dedicated to building bridges of understanding
and productive collaboration on behalf of the Chicago-area
American-Muslim community. The Council’s outreach and advocacy
encompasses a vast array of local, regional, and national
organizations,focusing on a variety of interests, including govt., interfaith, and civic groups. As the leading regional Muslim organization, the Council also works with national Muslim organizations to discuss important policy initiatives and ensure representation of the Chicago-area Muslim community in national Muslim community decision-making.
