Internship

Hi everyone, I need to know evrything about internships…Your experiences and all. I have to complete my internship but i have no idea where to start, how to contact the companies, which companies to contact and all the related stuff.
I live in dubai, and did my BBA through distance learning. I need your help guys and gals. Brief me on how to get started.

Re: Internship

Surf the web, read the newspapers, target a few companies which you'd like to work for, send them emails, call their HR departments, most importantly network ie talk to people already in the field, who can introduce you/ guide you/ help you get your foot in. Set yourself targets everyday, and always remember to follow up.

I wish I was in Dubai - the jobs and opportunities there seem to be in abundance these days.

Re: Internship

You know wht i did contact some of the companies by sending e-mails, but no luck. Do you think it is a good idea to call them and speak over the phone ?
I think getting a job in dubai is based on recommendation (70%). Its not easy.

Cat-woman, literally Dubai is called the '' The land of opportunities'', but the ground reality is something else.

living

your best bet is to talk to people you know who are in companies that you are interested in.

also when you call companies, talk to their HR group and ask them about their approach for internships.

usually the internships are arranged by the universities but since you did yours based on distance learning, that is goign to be different. ask your uni what they can do? maybe conect you with alumni in the area etc.

Re: Internship

I did email my university, asking how can the uni. help the students. Their response was something like this:- Give us a name of an organisation and we will send them a introduction letter to help with the internship.

Now before giving the any name of a company i would like to work with, should i contact the compny and ask them if they provide internships or not ??

Re: Internship

a less time consuming way in this regard is to:
1. Acquire a list of your seniors alongwith their served companies who have completed their internship, it may be taken from ur university/college
2. Contact with your teachers, alumni, peers
3. Jot down the names/organizations of your close friends, relatives, family members who are currently working.

the above list is less priority wize and you can take a start from serial number 3, and wish you all the best in your practical life.
