adab arz hian nazareen o hazraat :stuck_out_tongue:

i am doing first year accounting and finance and inshallah i hope to get an internship ( though very very very unlikely) in first year… though the places r usually for second and third years.

i will post my CV and ppl can give me some tips on how to improve it (yes i did post it b4 but i hav improved it). also i would be greatful if ppl can give me any helpful tips related to say interviews and how to go about the whole affair. the tips can be about anyting and everything … specially those ppl who look at cv’s as well as interview… like wat kind of questions will come up and wat is the best responce etc… so anything that ppl think may b helpful to me adab :stuck_out_tongue:

the sector i am looking at is investment banks, big accoutning firms or large plc’s most probably ones that make different variety consumer related products (eg P&G)

PS some of the stuff may be corny but no one laugh

:stuck_out_tongue:

Waleed I am not as comfortable editing the CV format (which is what you have presented here) and I am on dial up these days... Give me a few days and either PM me or refresh this thread and I will definately take a look at what you have put here. Hope that helps. Sorry about it not been as fast as you would like :).
Cheers mate.

thanx hmcq … to be honest this is really ment to be a resume… but its called a cv here… i went to the elhman brothers cv work shop .. waited an hour and the only thing he says to me is wow its too long bla bla bla … while ppl who went to others got a proper review  so i thought kay idhar he post kar lain

the cv’s in uk r different to those in amreeka for sure :stuck_out_tongue:

thanx

who said its long man, if you would see mine u might go nuts, which is 2 pages long :D, I can't cut down on exp :(

:disgust:

waleed you've excellent experience for someone who's in their first year! I can't edit your CV but I can wish you the best of luck :)

Well... first... CVs' are by their nature meant to be longer than a traditional resume'. Depending on your professional realm, sometimes one format is preferred over the other. I personally keep an updated copy of a resume' (2 pages... very hard to contain it to that) and a CV (6 pages and growing...)

As a first year undergrad, I'd recommend Waleed that you go with a resume' which should be about a page to two pages long... experience tells me that if your resume' spans more than a page, but lesser than two pages, shrinking it to a page would be better than say having a page and a half.

As a resume', the content you've included seems to be adequate. The only recommendation I have is to include an "Objectives Summary" section at the top with either a couple of bullet points or a short paragraph highlighting your short term goals and long term aspirations.
Often you'd have a basic template for this section, and modify it for specific job applications.

Hope that helps.

My suggestions:
Take out the references to islamic and pakistani societies. Instead call them cultural associations. Built and managed web site for organizations. Developed and managed several events including fund raisers for the society.

Book keeping and VAT returns
• Liaison with clients
• General office duties

Cash and financial recording, client interaction and general management of the office.

• Skilled with Windows 95, 98, 2000,XP and Microsoft Office 2000
• Know Pascal and HTML Language
• Built three new computers
- Involved sticking to a tight budget (Saved 400 pounds on a machine)
- Researching for right products, insuring their compatibility with each other
- Constructing the actual machine and installing appropriate software
• Trilingual in Urdu and Punjabi

Experienced in Windows,....., Pascal, HTML.

check out some of the resumes on the various job sites and use more "resume" like wording.

Hum Sa Ho To Samne Aaye : thank u :p

UT : thank u for the suggestion..... here though they call it a CV but really its a resume.... liek i said i went to the lehman bro's cv work shop and they said they it should be short ... i.e once page... also alot of ppl who have recieved Cv help have said that keep it on one page.

hmcq : thanx alot yaar. thing is wat if at the interview they ask me kay wat did the cultural associations involve or they ask somethign specific liek wat organizations then wouldnt i end up telling them about islamic and pakistani society?
