Today for an assignment I read a very interesting research paper. According to this paper using the Internet for general entertainment and for playing games will increase conflict and alienation and reduce trust and communication, commitment, and intimacy and companionship in best friendships and romantic relationships.
Using surveys and data analysis they proved that using chat rooms negatively affects the relationship, while instant messaging (one-to-one messaging) with friends positively affects this relationship. Different dimensions of a relationship they looked into are ‘Conflict and alienation’, Commitment, ‘Trust and communication’ and ‘Intimacy and companionship’.
How much you agree with this study? Do you really feel that spending time in chat rooms or posting in forums taking us away from our loved ones?

i thought so that when we are not getting time from our loved ones we try to heal out ourselves through creating relation on internet.
It may happen that when we need time of our loved ones they dont have it and we make relationship/frienships on net and when we bind in those relations strongly then our love ones think that we have no time for them.
is this justifiable, i observed many such clashes in child parent relationships. In our society its very common as parents dont try to understand the psychology of the kids. they just want to govern them. Then they try to make such relations that may understand them
However it is concluded that net makes strong relationship (of whatever type) rather posing negativ effect on them.
Yea thats what this study suggests, that if we are communicating with people who are already our friends / spouses / family members than it will make it much stronger. But if we spend our time in Chat rooms and forums than it will have a negative effect on the relationship.
The reason behind can be the lot of distractions and attention from strangers. Off course every one likes to be the center of attention. I personally feel that it is an addiction, and like any other addiction it has effects on our personalities.
is that why namaan u are most likely to be found in chatroom on gs:CareBear:
ps. thats if u r a internet geek then i think it will effect ur personal life but if u r only giving it few hours from ur time then i think its no harm
and anyway if the person knows thier limitations then i dont thinks so it really matters which one u choose to cummunicate through msn or forumns

Well Kaanch it is great piece of information that i read yesterday and these research papers are mirror to our behaviors as a society. We should all learn from it, including me :)
2nd thing is that this study doesn't include the time factor or limitations. It only shows the effect of Chat rooms and public forums on our personality. No matter how much time we spend on them. According to this study it DOES matter if u use chat rooms or MSN. If you get a chance do read it, its very interesting :)
